I've seen the 2024 Salem's Lot twice now and will be posting a review shortly. In the meantime, my capsule review is that it reminds me strongly of the kind of horror films you could typically find on cable in the 80s and 90s.

The first half of the film is pretty good, although it starts to fall apart in the second half due to the frantic pacing of the film and some overused modern horror movie tropes. They made some strange storytelling decisions with it, especially in the second half, and I think this squandered some deeper opportunities that could have been explored. Otherwise, the cast is pretty well solid, and there are some good moments in it.

I definitely like this adaptation better than the 2004 version, but it still falls well short of the 1979 version.

So, for those of you who've seen it...what do you think?

As you probably already know, a few days ago, a two-minute clip was released from the new Salem's Lot, which is scheduled to debut on Max on October third. I took a few days to digest it, consider the comments floating around on the Internet about it, and was about to post a video with my own thoughts on it; but now I hear that we're also about to get a trailer release (finally!). For that reason, I'm going to hold off commenting on it for now.

In the meantime, if you haven't seen the clip, take a look at it. If you have seen it, let me know your thoughts on it.

BookTube is currently celebrating "Garbaugust," a whole month of reading trashy fiction! The following is my own trashy book, "Descendent Darkness," a retro-style horror novel you can download for free from Amazon for the next few days. Check it out, and if you've read it, consider leaving a review. Indie authors (even trashy ones) appreciate all the support they can get. Thanks in advance!

You can listen to a reading of the novel's prologue here: https://youtu.be/FRV3oOyAh_g

What kind of content do you prefer when it comes to reviews? Would you rather have hosted content, such as I do with most of my videos; or do you prefer narration, such as I did with my Night Stalker retrospective? Or do you think I should switch back and forth for variety?

I came across a neat find today at a thrift store. "Yesterday's Son" is one of the best Star Trek novels I've read, and I already have a copy of it; but although this one is pretty beat up, I grabbed it anyway because it's signed by the author, A.C. Crispin.

I caught The Eagles tonight in Charlotte, North Carolina. A good time, even from the nosebleed seats.

For the month of February, I'm offering a free PDF of my retro-style vampire novel "Descendent Darkness" in exchange for leaving an honest review on Amazon. If you're interested, drop me a line here: atlanteanarchive73@gmail.com. If you enjoy the book, please share it around. Every little bit of exposure helps unknown authors like myself! Thanks in advance.

If you had "time enough at last," what would be up first on your reading list? What retro-type shows would you go back and re-watch?
