Morning! Book of the Day is “Metrophage” by Richard Kadry, 1988, an acclaimed debut novel. In this Los Angeles, anger, hunger and disease run rampant, and life and hope are strictly rationed. Add a plague to that and we’re off!

Morning! Book of the Day is “Footfall” by Niven & Pournell, 1985.  Pesky Pachiderms the Fithp arrive in a generation ship and bomb the crap out of us from orbit, following up with a ground invasion. Let the resistance begin! I read my paperback copy to death when I was a yoof, I think it got dunked in a swimming pool at one point. I now have this UK 1st edition and a replacement paperback from the 80s which is also in tip top condition. It's really silly stuff, but great fun, including one of the bestest spaceships in science fiction, the Archangel Michael.
