Which is the bigger threat to democracy: TikTok or banning free speech on social media?
Does social media help or hinder the democratic process? Back in March, I made this video, “Will a TikTok Ban Save Democracy”, which attempts to address these questions. Now it looks like the “potential” TikTok ban in the United States is really about to happen.
In this video, with the help of John Milton, we explore the role of freedom of speech in the age of social media, and think through whether or not new social technologies benefit or harm democracies.

The nature of progress is a difficult thing to nail down. Technology is progressing faster and faster by the day, but that does not always lead to social or economic progress.
Last March, I made this video called, “Does the Future Suck?” In it, I address the disconnect between technological progress and social progress.
I look to writers like Hannah Arendt to help us understand the strange ways the people around us seem to be coping with our disappointing future, using cybertrucks and Tradwifery as forms of escapism.
