Havenāt checked the two nest boxes I set up earlier in winter for over a month. Guess I can start logging data in NestWatch and maybe set up a few more sites since I wanted to keep the bluebirds near.
Wrens build nests by piling twigs into the box to make a bed, building a soft-lined cup in a depression of twigs, and lining the cup with feathers, grasses, animal hair, spider egg sacs, string, even snakeskin, or regretfully discarded plastic.

Finally visited the popular Annieās canyon this weekend! The slot canyon was interesting to explore although sketchy since itās all sandstone. You can visibly see cracking where some bolts connect to the wall, however, there ladder felt sturdy. I also spotted my first Allenās hummingbird, saw a few mating displays, then later found patches of Californica Astrella (native liverwort) covering the slopes on the switchbacks.
