12pm update: SPC has upgraded to enhanced
risk (level 3/5) for SW/S KS into W OK mainly for increased confidence in hail-producing supercells. They opted to keep tornado probs unchanged, but a conditional strong tornado risk does exist across this corridor late this afternoon/evening.

KICKING OFF STORM CHASING SEASON WITH A BANG. What was once a setup that had potential to be a significant severe weather event has now become quite unfavorable for severe weather on Sunday (March 3). Notice how much the ensemble models (Euro ensembles shown below) have changed in their portrayal of this weekend's incoming trough...much lower in amplitude, relegating most of the forcing to areas well removed from the returning moisture. Thus, it appears that Sunday will provide limited opportunity for severe weather across the country. Keeping an eye on the middle of next week for our next shot at robust severe weather in the southern US.
