Indorock is rock-'n-roll, performed by musicians from the former Dutch East Indies. This music was played at the end of the fifties of the 20th century by Indonesian, Moluccan and Dutch musicians and inspired by the rock-'n-roll music from America and the instrumental music of The Shadows, The Ventures and The String-A-Longs.
Coming from a completely different music culture, these artists were excellently able to convey the heart and soul of rock-'n-roll to the Dutch and European audience in terms of stage presence, but especially because of their technical talent. Although this music was mainly played from the mid-fifties to the mid-sixties, with a heyday in 1960-1963, the style name 'indorock' was invented in 1975 by enthousiasts of the genre and only became generally known in the eighties.
