‘OO’ Scale Model Railways
Helm's Deep Model Railway features a DCC controlled 'OO' scale railway, the layout is approximately 17ft 6ins long, by 7.5 feet wide (large section) and 5.5 feet wide (smaller section) The layout is made up of two MDF boards connected together by bridge sections and rests on two trestles approximately 3 feet high. Scenery and detail have yet to be added since the layout has just been erected from five years of storage and is now installed in a purpose built room. The layout does feature fully interlocked three aspect colour light signalling together with position light shunt signals which are also fully interlocked. DCC Concepts Cobalt point motors are employed together with points and signal lever controls via a DCC Concepts lever frame. Train detection is in addition incorporated (track circuits) via the use of more than 80 infrared detection points supplied by Heathcote Electronics. Over 600 12volt DPDT miniature relays are employed to operate this layout.
