Thank you guys for sticking it out through the scuff stream today. Especially thank you to the people who stuck around through the tech issues. π if you missed it, I am gonna try and do some smaller unschedules streams next month as well as the patreon stream, mostly to try and troubleshoot what the connection problem is because this is the 2nd month this has happened and I want to give your guys a good product to enjoy and don't like putting out shoddy work. Thanks to the chat for mostly just making jokes about the tech issues and not getting annoyed with me. You guys are the best π

It is once again time to do emotional damage to everyone by recommending Sabaton's song about the Christmas Truce that happened on the 25th of December 1914. Where an unofficial cease fire happened at several points along the western front of WW1 to celebrate Christmas.
During this short period, several men crossed No Man's Land to exchange gifts, food, prisoners and other souvenirs. There are also accounts of friendly and informal football matches happening all across the trenches during this brief respite.
By the Christmas of 1915, this kind of "fraternizing with the enemy" was discouraged by by strongly worded orders from commanding officers. This does not mean small truces didn't break out during Christmas (and honestly, during the entire war) but it was severely admonished.
Historically, the Christmas Truce and the further truces of WWI are one of many examples of the noncooperation from soldiers on both sides of the conflict along the western front who, although not pushing so far as insubordination, was in many ways their own way of protesting against the war itself and the pointlessness of the conflict.
As for the music video;
The opening line of "I remember the silence" is a quote from Alfred Anderson who served in the fifth battalion.
The Aria during the credits is sung by Floor Jansen, the lead vocalist of Nightwish.
I believe the cross at the end of the music video, is an accurate recreation of the Saint-Yves Cross left at the most well known location of the Christmas Truce and not the real cross. As its text is slightly different and simplified and obviously they would not deface a war memorial for a music video.
As with all Sabaton music videos, the historical accuracy of the uniforms and the trench built for the video are sound.

Well guys, it is Friday the week before Christmas and I have to be VERY strict with myself and take next week off from doing ANYTHING work related because I desperately need some time off. I didn't manage to edit the new video together in time (I am 25 minutes into an hour 8 minute video) so you guys will probably see it near the end of the month. I am still planning to go live NEXT (not this coming) Saturday on the 28th.
