The Arzaga Meteorological Observatory was established in November 2022 and is located in the Arzaga neighborhood of Milan. It consists of a meteorological station and four live cameras pointed toward the northeast and southeast.
The weather station monitors urban climate, which is defined as “local climate that differs from that in neighboring rural areas due to urban development.” This means that air temperature, precipitation, air pollutant concentration, and wind speed often differ from surrounding areas.
Cities are characterized by densely built-up areas, leading to higher air temperatures with the formation of an urban heat island. Buildings and streets store energy from solar radiation during the day and release it as heat at night.
