I make a lot of rice and beans using a pressure cooker, specifically an instant pot, and put them into burritos. It's an inexpensive way to feed yourself and others. Here's the recipe:

Rice:
4 cups rice, rinsed
5 cups water
Pressure cook on "high" for 4 minutes (for white rice) or 5 minutes (for brown rice)
Allow to rest 10 minutes before venting
Fluff with fork

Beans:
3 and 1/4 cups pinto beans, dry, rinsed
5 cups water
1 to 2 onion(s), finely diced
1/4 to 1/2 cup roasted green chile (505 southwestern)
1/4 to 1/2 cup refined coconut oil
1/2 to 1 tsp white vinegar
2 tbsp imperial margarine
1/4 to 1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 to 1 tsp salt
1/4 to 1/2 tsp MSG
1/4 to 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 to 3 tsp sriracha sauce (huy fong foods)
1 to 3 drops liquid smoke (colgin)

Stir all ingredients together, pressure cook on "high" 50 minutes, allow to rest 10 minutes before venting

Stir bean mixture

Mix rice and beans to desired ratio (I always end up with extra rice when following these instructions)

Coat flour tortillas on both sides with coconut oil. Fry flour tortillas in coconut oil in a skillet, browning both sides. Remove tortillas, add rice/bean mixture and form burrito shape.

I had ordered a 1.8 inch TFT LCD to build a project last week, but the seller cancelled the order. I reordered today, but the parts won't get here for another week at the soonest. This is unfortunate. The idea is to use a grid of LEDs on someone's face to make it so that images are turned into a pattern of heat -- the illuminated LEDs -- which can be felt even if the user is blind, restoring low-resolution vision. The other project I should be finishing is an rTMS device, but to do this I will need a stable living situation; right now it looks like I will be moving from Raton, NM to somewhere in North Carolina, so I won't be able to assemble the large and expensive parts required to build the rTMS device. I'm uncertain where I should be posting these updates in order to get feedback, but there's a community tab here so I may as well use it. I hope everyone out there is doing well :)

On spreading life beyond Earth:
Fish larvae might also be small enough to freeze-dry without issue; freeze-drying everything before launch would obviate the need for a controlled ecological life support system, and make it cheaper to launch more of these at a greater number of exoplanets that might harbor liquid water.

Digging through my previous references, it looks like halite is the mineral most likely to have living organisms in its inclusions, not amber or quartz, alas.
