Iâm currently working on some Hypnospace Outlaw stuff. I think it comes out to 99 videos Iâm trying to upload. My (at present private) âHypnospace Outlaw OST + Extrasâ playlist is 202 videos long. That means that itâs going to have 301 videos.
I placed each video in the playlist with specific intent; I categorized them into one of 6 categories that are in order: released, unreleased, unused, low-quality, short, and bonus. Within these categories, where appropriate, I ordered by how the artists officially released the songs, by the name of the file (some files have a specific order that doesnât correspond with alphabetical order), or alphabetically (first by artist name and then by song name).
Itâs been taking me so long for multiple reasons:
1. I must manually record many songs directly from the game because they use the Hypnospace Tune Sequencer. I have to go through each recording and validate that the recorded music doesnât sound janky, then cut it up precisely when the music is supposed to start and stop based on what it tells you in-game, and finally save each song as a new file.
2. I want to avoid re-uploads. Others have already uploaded many unreleased/unused/low-quality/short tracks, and I donât want to reduce their efforts. Because of this, I have to look up each item in my extensive list and parse through YouTube or Google results to ensure that someone hasnât already uploaded it (in 1 song per video format).
3. 99 is a lot. From what I can tell, there are 128 unreleased/unused/low-quality/short songs. Out of these, 73 arenât yet on YouTube. The other 26 songs (that add up to the 99 total) are officially released but arenât yet on YouTube. Also, I like to be meticulous with my video descriptions, which adds a lot of time.
4. I have been putting this project off for a month. I have already prepared every song to be uploaded, all thumbnails, the massive playlist, and how I will order each video. I still havenât rendered any of the 99 videos or prepared the 99 descriptions (some descriptions will have unique information regarding the song, but I also need to write proper credits and categorial information).
4.a. My desktop has been a mess for a month, and I havenât touched anything Hypnospace Outlaw related. One of the reasons for this is how busy Iâve been recently, but I think the biggest reason is how daunting this project is. However, I plan to work on âHypnospace Outlaw OST + Extrasâ again in the coming weeks/month. I want to make progress for a few reasons:
4.a.i. I havenât gone through every song again to see if someone beat me to the punch. At this point, I donât want to, and I somewhat donât even care if I accidentally end up âre-uploadingâ a song. I do still want to avoid doing that, though.
4.a.ii. I donât know if Iâll do a âDreamsettler OST + Extras,â but I want to complete this project before Hypnospace Outlawâs sequel, Dreamsettler, comes out regardless.
4.a.iii. Too much plink. Iâm afraid Iâm milking plink. I donât want to become a plink channel, even if I created my subsequent plink videos only because of requests to do so in comments.
This post was not about me complaining. I just wanted to explain the situation on an upcoming project Iâve been working on. If I didnât want to do this, I wouldnât. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
As a final note, I didnât write this post for anyone to read it. I just wanted to get my thoughts out for my own sake.
