Hope for Health, based on Elcho Island in North East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, is an innovative, Indigenous-directed project that is providing the Yolngu people with the experience and resources needed to rediscover true health. Using traditional knowledge as our guide, our aim is to “reawaken Rom Walngaw” - the Yolngu way to vitality.

Hope for Health consists of a group of courageous and hopeful Yolngu women from Elcho Island who are suffering from chronic disease and are motivated to become agents of change in their community, who are being supported by local cross-cultural facilitators / community development agents Tim and Kama Trudgen. We are passionate about addressing the epidemic of chronic disease facing Indigenous Australians due to disempowerment, the marginalisation of traditional knowledge and a lack of understanding of the link between lifestyle choices and health.
