so, 2024 is over for me, and in lieu of not really having any other large-scale platform to do my Year In Review + Plans For The Next Year, i suppose they will be made into community posts from now on.
despite the state of the world in 2024 and many choices happening that, globally, are absolutely for the worse, 2024 for me personally was a year of rebirth and overall an incredibly good year for me. obviously i got back in contact with some old friends and met a whole bunch of new ones, and got to finally travel out of state, as well as work in a dream field of mine. being scouted for Mango Factory and joining the team working on Kumitantei: Old-School Slaughter has been an absolutely phenomenal opportunity and i'm extremely grateful to both the rest of the team working on the game and to its fans for it, and I hope to help pen a story that gives you the thrills and chills you felt all that time ago again while still providing a unique experience.
of course, it was not just finding new friends that helped me with that, but snipping the chords of friendships that had become straight up strangling. you might have noticed im no longer talking with or about xlightsoforion - they were an irl friend of mine who had taken to, in a nutshell, financially, socially, and emotionally abusing me (and also began harassing actual young children over roblox towards the end of the friendship). i finally managed to escape in february and pretty much within weeks of cutting them off i felt a lot better mentally.
between both of those, my mental health has taken a rapid uptick. i was in an extremely dark place throughout a lot of 2023, and though i know it's a stressful topic, i imagine you catch my meaning. i'm in a much healthier place mentally - i haven't felt this well since before the pandemic. well, mentally, anyway. my physical health has been on the downturn for a couple of years - i've developed considerable lower back pain that even opiods haven't done much more than slightly dull. it might have to do with my desk chair - i'll be setting up a new one in the coming days, so fingers crossed it was the stupid fucking gaming chair giving me problems.
so. for 2025!
i don't think my life has gotten stale, perse, but i'm closer to 30 than 20 now and i think im figuring out what i want to do. i'd like to get some medical help for my physical issues (lack of focus, dead-in-the-water metabolism, fatigue, aforementioned back pain), but i'd also like to shake up my life and try new things in the new year, whether they turn out well or badly. i don't want to be in the same position i am this time next year. it'd be cool if i could move and live on my own, if im honest, we'll see how that shakes out.
i don't really do New Years resolutions since watching CGP Grey's video (linked at the bottom) on doing a yearly theme for the decisions you make throughout the year - my one for 2024 was "year of relationships", and i think that between strengthening older relationships that were good, forging new ones that were also good, and escaping those that were bad, i succeeded with this theme in flying colours.
i think that would make this year's theme the Year of Novelty - similar to the one in the video, but me just trying new things for the sake of trying new things, while strengthening skills I already have.
