Watch the full-length movie of season 1 premiere on Patreon: Saturday, Nov 30 at 6pm EST!

Grab some popcorn! At 6pm Eastern Standard Time, I will be releasing the full-length movie of season 1 exclusively to Patreon contributors. Runtime is about 1 hour and 35 minutes. Just like you, I'll be hanging out with friends at a watch party!
After the video, I will be doing a 30-minute live Q&A for Patreon contributors. My hope is do that via a live video stream. Not having done it before, we'll see how it goes. If the streaming doesn't work, I will do a chat within Patreon itself. Either way, immediately after the video, I will post a link and update on Patreon as to where to go for the Q&A session. Hope to see you there!

Season 1 Movie: UPDATE. The first draft of the season 1 movie is done. Total runtime: 1 hour and 35 minutes.
About a dozen new scenes shot, many... many tweaks to the script. With first render, I'm sure I will find bugs. Knock those down and we'll be rounding the final turn, folks. More soon.

A little over halfway through the 1st draft video editing for the season 1 full-length movie. Definitely pushing my rig to its limit, but so far, so good. A few things learned, so far:
1. Some of the special effects did not transfer when copying timelines into the full-length timeline. Hoping I don't have to re-create, but time will tell.
2. I will have some additional music editing to do now that everything is combined - both not to be repetitive, but also to match the broader-scale tone, versus individual episodes.
3. Reviewing it is going to take time. Just watching it all the way through once will take over an hour by the time this thing is done. Normally, each episode is watched quite literally dozens of times before I call it done, so there will likely be days worth of review and tweaking before release.
4. I may leave episode 13 out of the series (13 being the documentary in the female voice). That was meant to be stand-alone and I think including it will be distracting to the overall movie. Will see, and I will play with it, but I'm heavy leaning going right from EP12 to EP14.
That all said, it's coming together nicely. More to come soon.

Episode 15 script update: while working on the script, I thought I'd share these interesting national security council transcripts I found from August of 1990 immediately after Iraq invaded Kuwait. Gives a pretty good fly-on-the-wall view of the discussion. It's proven a great resource for crafting my story.

Script is coming together nicely. The struggle has been condensing a metric ton of information into a tight story. So much to tell... so little time. :)

The Next World War: Updates!
1. FULL SEASON 1 VIDEO
The combined season 1 script is done! I had to make changes so that it flows well between episodes, but as I mentioned in an earlier video, there were some things I wanted to change/add based on what I know now and have learned. Not major tweaks, but I think they help the story along better and add a bit more context. I also made a few changes based on viewer feedback where errors were found. Like... I totally missed that in episode 5 I mention 3 Yasen-class subs, but later there are only 2. Another was stating "The HMS...", instead of just HMS. I changed Operation Citadel to something new, understanding its history. Etc., etc.
2. SEASON 2
The timeline and outline for season 2 is complete! Or at least the story I intend to tell is complete, assuming that as I begin writing each episode, there will likely be changes. For instance, I originally did not plan to write episode 11 in season 1, the cyberattack on US commercial aviation. Instead, the subject came to my attention while researching something else and soon after, I knew I just HAD to write that episode. So, though my timeline and story arch is set, some new juicy episodes might be added as things progress.
All that to also say that I'm now beginning the script for the first episode of season 2!
Onward and upward.

Episode 14 Update!
Filming wrapped up today! As much as I like ARMA3, it felt good to end production with some DCS naval units. So, so much easier to work with. And pretty. Next steps: narration, then music, then video editing. Progress!

Filming completed for Episode 13!
130 clips in total. 76 scenes. SO many scenes. Now begins the fun part, seeing if it all works! Tomorrow I begin laying the voice-over. Then music. Then editing. Crossing my fingers that 7-10 days from now... release of EP13. Lessons learned:
- Boats don't like to go fast down narrow rivers, no matter how fast you code them to go
- I have a love/hate with ARMA3. Love that when I needed a hospital bed... voila. A hospital bed mod. When I need a unit to do a certain thing at a certain time... chaos.
- I didn't like Colonel Nagamov before. I have a visceral hatred for him now.
- I have only scratched the surface of how to do better lighting in ARMA3.
- I will be grateful for the next episode when ARMA3 isn't needed for EVERY SHOT! I long for a bit of DCS simplicity. :)
Onward and upward!

Flat Circle History is a YouTube channel dedicated to near-future conflicts, telling multi-episode stories, styled in the form of documentaries, giving you a view of potential wars to come - both from a strategic level, down to the horrors of battle experienced by individual soldiers.
Who is FCH? Just me. A guy who grew up during the cold war with a love of storytelling, video production, gaming and history. FCH is a nod to Nietzsche and his phrase, "Time is a flat circle", that like most conflicts and tragedies, we as mankind have seen variations of this before, whether in 216 BC or 1944. Maybe if we get a proper peek into the future, we won't repeat the past.
