We are very happy to announce that our new album 'Homeland' would be out in late May on Deep Mountain Records. First single is dropping in the end of the month.
This is a very personal album which reflects on our own journey of cultural belonging and displacement. The music draws inspiration from the experiences of our families as immigrants in America and Australia. Following the path of countless families within the Greek diaspora, generation after generation, we are connecting it to our own journey searching for our personal path. Getting in touch with the emotions that are present in our folk traditions, our songs, our poems - expressing the love for those you left behind.
We are excited to share the cover made by Raimund Wong
The cover is an adaptation of a family photo taken c. 1964 in Koutselio, Ioannina of our grandparents Yannoula Papakosta and Theodoros Ziarkas with their children Nikos (our father), Vicky and Tasia.

Reflecting on the contemporary yet timeless struggles of physical and ideological displacement, Valia Calda’s music draws inspiration from the themes of migration and exile. Their music is rooted in the folk music of Epirus, Greece and psychedelic jazz, which also tangles with punk inspired guitar riffs and meditative improvisations.
Valia Calda are led by guitarist Nikos Ziarkas and double bassist Thodoris Ziarkas (Yazz Ahmed, Savina Yannatou, Electric Litany), who are joined by: James Allsopp on the saxophone and bass clarinet, Sam Warner on the trumpet, and drummer Gaspar Sena. The band has released two albums: Homeland (2023) and Methexis (2018), and their debut EP (2014).
