Today, we returned to Igly Lamaj's bench, who worked on a Steris 3085 surgical table. He shared that this model often encounters power supply failures.
After conducting the thorough required tests, no significant issues were found for this unit. Nevertheless, we proactively replaced easily damaged components to ensure a longer service life.
Preventative maintenance is essential in maximizing the lifespan of medical equipment. We ensure these surgical tables are fully rejuvenated and ready for years of reliable use by replacing wear-and-tear components like O-rings, brakes, batteries, and fuses.

Today, we went behind Igly Lamaj's bench, who worked on an idi 100UC urology table. He shared that this unit is sturdy, and the main issues it encounters are just parts suffering from wear and tear, such as:
-Motors
-Fuses
-Wiring
For this particular unit, the urology table was received in two separate pieces, which required complete reassembly before starting the refurbishment process. After the table was refurbished, thorough testing was conducted to ensure both patient safety and optimal performance.
Routine inspections help identify potential failures before they become critical, ensuring that the equipment remains reliable when it is needed most.

Take a look at what our biomed, Sachin Gandhi, is troubleshooting this week! He worked on a GE Optima XR220amx portable X-ray system. Sachin shared that this model often encounters the following issues:
-Dead batteries
-Broken cables
-Power supply malfunctions
For this specific unit, the collimator light was non-functional due to a power supply malfunction. After replacing all 12 batteries, verifying the cables, and repairing the power supply unit, this portable X-ray machine was due for additional maintenance. The following steps were to lubricate the high-voltage cables to ensure smooth operation, replace the SSD for improved performance, verify the software works on peak conditions, and test the machine with the corresponding Phantom module.
Lastly, Sachin shared that battery health is critical for this unit. Since it runs entirely on battery power, troubleshooting is impossible until all 12 batteries are replaced. This is the most common point of failure, and addressing it first ensures an accurate diagnosis.

Today’s Biomed behind the bench features Charu Chande & Pavan Mudu, who worked on a SonoSite SII ultrasound system. They shared that this model commonly encounters the following issues:
-Power supply issues
-Transducer errors caused by faulty transducers or main boards
-Network communication issues
-Touchscreen malfunctions
For this specific unit, the ultrasound machine was already in a refurbished state, so they were conducting a quality assessment. As part of the process, they tested the probe using the Phantom (patient simulation tool), which evaluates image quality and transducer performance.
Their key takeaway? Preventative testing is crucial to ensure reliability.
Conducting thorough calibrations and ongoing monitoring can identify and resolve potential issues early, providing the highest quality for our clients.

Soma Tech Intl was founded in 1992 by two young biomedical entrepreneurs that identified a market need for high-quality medical equipment at affordable prices and supplied by a local company. The company was first located in a small office in Rocky Hill, CT serving facilities in the central Connecticut area employing only a handful of dedicated employees.
Just within 5 years, Soma Tech Intl had expanded its market reach to serve facilities around the New England area and developed enough customer relationships and brand awareness resulting in its move to a new, larger facility in Cheshire, CT in 1996, where it could accommodate a larger inventory and more team members. This move allowed Soma Tech to continue to expand its product line and by the late 90s Soma Tech Intl had become a worldwide supplier of new and refurbished medical equipment setting the standards for the industry In order to accommodate its resounding success.
