I get asked about 'tone improvement' a lot.
Is my reply to this comment stupid?
Q: "how do I improve my tone on the bass clarinet?"
A: "Don't focus on your tone much.
Imagine that you're a student ballet dancer, and you want to become more "graceful". You watch the pro dancers. You want to emulate the "grace" these dancers exhibit.
No matter how intensely you visualize, read, study, meditate, concentrate, and focus on tone, your "grace" doesn't improve much.
Why?
Because your mind is misdirected.
The "grace" you see is actually the final output of a thousand, small, technical inputs. Inputs such as balance, flexibility, muscle-memory, strength, etc.
Your clarinet tone is not so different.
Your tone is the final output of a thousand, small, technical inputs.
If you want a better tone, work on your posture, hand technique, articulation, intonation, reed adjustment/management, clarinet maintenance, breathing, etc.
If you do this, your tone should improve on its own."

Should I launch a clarinet podcast?
...it'd be live-streamed. On YouTube. Mostly interviews with clarinettists and other interesting YouTubers and musicians.
