Viet (pinyin: yuè), or Bach Viet (pinyin: bǎi yuè, bǎik wyuèt), are population groups belonging to the Austroasiatic and Linguistic families. The Kra-Dai system settled and lived in the southern part of the Truong Giang, which, according to the territory of the Han Dynasty, now covers Southern China and the Red River Delta of Northern Vietnam.
It is also an ancient word for the land in which these tribes lived, either culturally or linguistically related.
