Lasers are known as the safest and less painful surgery for correcting a tongue tie issue. In addition to providing immediate healing, the tongue is more protected, and there is a reduced risk of bleeding.

Why is it important to release a tongue tie? A tongue tie (ankyloglossia) is a problem with the tongue that is present from birth. It causes speech and eating problems in some children.

We can diagnose the condition with a health history and physical exam. We will carefully check your child’s tongue and its movements.

So what should you do? First, if you feel any thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, feel depressed most of the day, feel anxious, guilty, hopeless, or have lost enjoyment in everyday life, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

With tongue- and lip-ties being present in around 25% (some would say even higher) of babies, this issue is often overlooked or dismissed. Get evaluated for a lip or tongue tie by someone who treats tongue ties routinely.

MYTH - What does the upper lip tie have to do with feeding? 🍼

FACT - The infant might struggle to maintain a good, secure latch when the upper lip fails to elevate or flange upward adequately. An upper lip tie can also interfere with the closing of the mouth, make brushing teeth difficult, or lead to gaps between teeth. Unfortunately it's a myth πŸ˜“

Did you know your tongue should be resting entirely on the palate? Your lips should be together, and your breathing should be through the nose. πŸ‘ƒ

Also, babies and toddlers should be seen by a lactation consultant, or speech or feeding therapist, whatever their struggles may be, for best results. πŸ‘Ά
