SLOVENSKOOOOO 🇸🇰 🏒

The Slovaks beat the US by a score of 6-3 in todays World Juniors match! Everyone played very well, however there were a couple players that stood out to me…

Šimon Nemec - Nemec was very visible on the ice throughout the game. He was seen breaking up passes in the neutral zone, initiating breakouts, and played a very good offensive game. One specific moment is when he swiped the puck off of Logan Cooley. (3rd overall) Cooley was entering the zone, when Nemec stick checked the puck off of him, resulting in a turnover. On top of his defensive play, he also tallied 3 assists while being a +4. Nemec had about 24 minutes of ice time throughout the game.

Dalibor Dvorsky - Dvorsky also very noticeable throughout the game. He won numerous faceoffs, played exceptional defense, and was an offensive threat. The puck was controlled by the US behind the Slovak net… Dvorsky was able to steal the puck from the forward resulting in a turnover. On top of this, Dvorsky also scored. While on the PP, he is able to rifle a shot past the goaltender. This goal tied the game up, and was a HUGE momentum shifter for the Slovaks. He was also very reliable in the face off dot, creating numerous chances for the Slovaks to breakout. This game definitely had the scouts on the edge of their seats.

I can’t wait to see how the rest of the tournament plays out! 🇸🇰

The 2023 World Junior roster has just been announced! Šimon Nemec and Filip Mešár, both first round picks in the latest NHL Draft are on the team. Top 2023 draft prospects, Samuel Honzek, Dalibor Dvorsky, Alex Ciernik, and Maxim Štrbak have also been announced to the roster. Where will we see team Slovakia finish? What videos do you want to see me make about the tournament?

With the 2022-23 season underway, it’s time we check in on all the Slovaks drafted in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft.

Juraj Slafkovsky- Currently has 3 goals in 10 games for the Montreal Canadiens. All 3 of these goals have been absolute rockets. Most of his playing time has been on the bottom 2 lines, so I can’t wait to see what will happen when he moves to the top 6.

Šimon Nemec- Currently plays in the AHL for the Utica Comets. In 9 games, Nemec has put up 2 points (1-1) and is a +3. Nemec has been adapting very well to North American ice ever since he came over from Nitra.

Filip Mešár- Mešár currently plays in the OHL for Kitchener, where in 6 games, he’s tallied 9 points. (5-4) Mešár is absolute dominating his opponents. At times, you could see Mešár go coast to coast before either passing the puck or taking it to the net.

In the end, all 3 of the Slovaks taken in the first round have been playing very well. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings for these talented players.

With an assist in last night's game, Filip Mešár improved to 7 points in 3 games (3-4) with the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. Without Mešár, the Rangers had 1 win and 5 losses to start off the season. Throughout those games, they scored an average of 3 goals. With the new addition of the Slovak winger, the Rangers have won 3 games in a row while scoring an average of 6 goals per game.

Mešár played last season in the Slovak Extraliga where he put up 16 points in 37 games. (8-8) He has already proven that he can play amongst men and has certainly proven that he can play against players his age. The big question is, when are we going to see him get his chance in the AHL? Will he continue to produce like he has been? Let me know your thoughts/comments on this talented forward.

🔥Dalibor Dvorsky is beginning to heat up!🔥 In 5 games for the AIK J20 team, Dvorsky put up 8 points (3-5). After a hot start with the J20 team, Dvorsky got called up to the main team, AIK, which plays in the Allsvenskan league. In his first 5 games with the professional team, Dvorsky tallied 5 points (3-2) in 5 games. Dalibor is projected to be a top 10 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Will Dalibor be able to keep this point per game pace? Will he be yet another Slovak taken in the top ten?

Slovak legend Richard Zedník met up with Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovsky after he made his NHL debut. Zedník has praised Slafkovsky for his work leading up to the NHL. “He reminds me of a young Jagr…” Both players wore #20 while in the Canadiens organization. What are your thoughts on Juraj’s NHL debut?

It’s crazy to me that Juraj Slafkovsky and Filip Mešar went from playing in the Peewee Tournament in Québec to playing for the Montreal Canadiens organization.

Pavol Regenda currently has 6 points (3-3+6) in just 5 preseason games as a 22 year old. Last season, Regenda played in his home town, Michalovce, where he put up 39 points in 43 games. He also played in the Olympics helping Slovakia to earn their first ice hockey medal as an independent country. Regenda was signed to Anaheim on 6/1/22, just after the Extraliga Playoffs concluded. Where will he end up playing this year? Will he make the NHL out of training camp or does he need some time in the AHL? Ducks fans….what are your thoughts on Regenda?

Juraj Slafkovsky looked very good last night vs. Toronto. He put up 1 assist and had 4 shots on net/2 shots that went just wide. I noticed Juraj creating more open space throughout this game than he has throughout the past few preseason games. He made a couple very nice passes and was not afraid to shoot the puck. He also made a couple good defensive plays resulting in a turnover. Juraj will continue to get better wherever he ends up playing this year. Where do you think he will end up? Will he play any games in the NHL this season?
