Klangwerkstatt Berlin, founded in 1990 by Peter Ablinger, is the largest and oldest independent festival of contemporary music in Berlin. The program is shaped by the innovative Berlin ensembles of contemporary music. Important influences also come from radical-experimental formations beyond all narrow genre concepts and, last but not least, from ensembles from Germany and abroad that bring their very own aesthetic points of view.
The festival initiates and accompanies the development of new artistic forms and offers space for the discussion of music-aesthetic positions. The Klangwerkstatt Berlin is also a driving force in the development of advanced children's and youth work in the field of contemporary music. The festival provides impulses for the development of participatory projects and emphasizes intergenerational cooperation in which professional musicians, students, young people and children meet at eye level.
