Welcome to the Bay View: Town of Lake CAPTAINS! Channel. On this channel we unveil new discoveries about the 71 lake captains that lived in Bay View, Wisconsin, in the days of sail and steam between 1878 and 1968. Heretofore almost completely unknown, these fascinating lake captains and their families shed a new light on Bay View's history.

The majority of the captains were immigrants and lived in the northwest corner of Bay View, closest to the Port of Milwaukee and the adjoining Kinnickinnic River where undoubtedly most of their ships docked during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

In addition to presenting individual episodes on each captain, we also want to place a marker with the captains' names on it in this northwest corner of Bay View to remember them. Other similar Bay View maritime history projects are planned. We hope you will join with us as we undertake this endeavor.
