Mexico, pronounced ME-hee-ko by the Spanish, is the current name given to lands that are part of Anahuak (currently called North America). The word comes from 'Mexihka' (pronounced me-SHEE-kah) one of the uto-aztecan-speaking nations that migrated after the great drought in 1016 A.D. from what is now the four corners area in the united states to the lands where Mexico City now stands. The Spaniards put an "x" in place of the "sh" sounds in the spellings of Nahuatl words to signify an unknown sound since no such sound exists in the Spanish language. We are still here and we are still on ANAHUAK!
