Several years ago on the radio I began to hear old time radio programs from the 1930's, 40's, and 50's. Many featured the big bands of Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Harry James, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Les Brown, Kay Kyser, and Gene Krupa to name a few. All seemed to have wonderful girl singers (called "girl singers" because most were still in their teens). It was, "From the Pennsylvania Hotel, The Glenn Island Casino or High Atop The Roosevelt Hotel!" and your mind would create this elegant, wonderful, and exciting picture. Well, after getting hooked on that full rich saxophone sound of the big bands I picked up my horn again and with the tireless help and patience of jazz sax man Bernie Maloney started The Cigar City Big Band. Here, for your consideration, are some guys and a gal just trying to have a little fun and as Herbie Hancock said, "make a little music."
