Through the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI), the United States is working to help expand the Lobito Corridor trade route that links Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This flagship project, anchored in core rail investments, is a transformative economic corridor that connects the region. The project also accelerates trade and the growth of key sectors supporting the economic diversification and development priorities of African leaders.

🚆 Faster Access to Markets: A more direct route to ports and markets reduces transportation times and helps farmers get their produce to customers faster.

🚢 More Export Opportunities: By linking the Atlantic and Indian oceans, the Lobito Corridor will open new export routes, giving farmers access to new markets.

📦 More Agribusiness Investments: The Lobito Corridor will attract investments in agribusiness, including processing facilities and storage units, boosting the value chain for agricultural products.

🌾 Reduced Crop Loss: Using the corridor will reduce the time goods spend in transit, minimizing spoilage, and boost farmers’ incomes by ensuring more fresh produce reaches the market.

💪 Stronger Supply Chains: Upgraded logistics networks will make it easier to move items like seeds and fertilizers to farms and finished products to markets.

This week, leaders from the United States and around the world gathered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to collaborate on global issues at the ‪@G20orgBrasil‬ Leaders Summit. Secretary Blinken and President Biden led the U.S. delegation, and joined fellow member countries – as well as the European Union and the African Union – to work together in new ways to address shared challenges, including:

— Addressing climate change
— Strengthening global health security
— Ensuring AI and technology are used for good
— Advancing inclusive growth and development

It was a great time to be in Brazil since 2024 marks the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Brazil, which has made it possible for our countries to develop into two of the most diverse, thriving democracies in the world. #G20 #G20Brazil

The United States’ #UNGA79 priorities outline how we’re standing with partners and allies to address the world’s most challenging issues.

As world leaders meet in New York City this week, we’re focused on driving peace processes to address and mitigate conflicts, revitalizing the overstretched UN humanitarian system, and helping advance institutional reforms necessary to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and better reflect the voices and priorities of developing countries.

How it started → How it’s going

On April 4, 1949, Secretary of State Dean Acheson, with President Harry S. Truman behind him, signed the North Atlantic Treaty in the Department Auditorium alongside 12 other nations. 75 years later on July 9, 2024, in the same auditorium, President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, host a reception celebrating the Alliance alongside representatives from NATO’s 32 nations.
