Something deeply human about gorillas that isn’t implicitly felt in other apes, Nick. I see an orangutan or chimp and I see an animal relative. I see a gorilla and I see a distant human brother. I say “you and I aren’t that different. were both beasts. but you are covered in fur, and i am in flesh.” yeah, that gorilla is having human thoughts. nebulous in nature, maybe abstracted by its surroundings, but undoubtedly human. given enough time and resources, i am sure a gorilla could grasp the concept of taxation.
