Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a self-proclaimed Christian nation with 98% identifying as Christians. It was only until the late 1980’s that PNG had its first native revert to Islam (before that, no native PNG was known as a Muslim). In 2001 the number of Muslims was just under 500. A recent research found the figure has jumped by 1000% to over 5,000 Muslims – predominantly made up of Papua New Guinean (PNG) reverts.
