This is me in Excalidraw, trying to figure out how to build a binary tree that will correctly solve math equations. This is the sort of thing I do because I find it entertaining.
You've been warned.
It doesn't work yet but hey ... baby steps.

If you liked the Quake video,
@vondur666 pointed out these commands to me:
"r_softemu 3"
"r_softemu_metric 1"
Enter that into ironwail (without the quotation marks). That combined with "r_scale 6" gives you a VERY accurate and convincing software rendering experience.
You get the texture skewing on objects, the 8-bit rendering palette, etc.
Just pure retro love, it's the best!

Early observations of semi-retirement...
I'm losing track of the time. I'm working on whatever seems interesting to me at any given point so I don't really notice the hours going by. This is something I always strove for when working jobs but it never fully clicked in for me. As it is now, I look up from what I'm doing and I realize it's almost mid-afternoon.
Secondly, I'm listening to a lot less music. Almost none, in fact. It doesn't even occur to me to find something to listen to. I think this is another side effect of working on stuff I choose to work on. I don't need the distraction - which I didn't even realize WAS a distraction until now.
The mind is an interesting place.

Some folks expressed their relief to see I was still alive after I posted a new video yesterday. I appreciated that but I thought it a little strange.
Then I noticed that my last post here was in early 2020 and I realized what bad timing that was!
Sorry about that, I didn't mean to worry anyone. All is well... <3

If you're trying out Blender yourself, @Arrimus3D has a great video series for beginners. He has a great way of explaining things and is definitely worth subbing to if you're a 3D artist.
His non-Blender content is great too. :)

Taking my first baby steps into using Blender for real, actual ... work. It's slow going but I AM getting things built. And re-assigning hot keys as I go. :)
Can't say what this is for but rest assured it IS actual work. I'm like a proud papa ...

No, I'm not switching to Blender. Not yet, anyway. But I HAVE been Blender-curious for awhile now and have started putting in a little time each day to learn it.
The 2.8+ release is really working well for me and I feel like I'm finally understanding it.
Here's a video that offers a few tips that newcomers looking to try out Blender might find useful ...

Have your years of computer use caught up with you yet? Are you a fellow RSI sufferer? Let's talk about it!
The main thrust of this video is about my choice to use a stylus over a mouse for basically everything, but I'm also interested in hearing about how other people deal with these challenges as our fleshy mortal bodies break down ...

First video in what I hope will be a continuing series where I share little modeling tips and efficiency tricks. They won't all be MODO specific so even if, for some reason, you're not a MODOnaut there should still be some value in here for you!
To kick it off, collapsing geometry and the power of a good hot key!
And I know this video is sort of hot on the heels of the last one ... this isn't my preferred cadence for this year, don't get too excited. :) But I'm going away this weekend and I wanted to have some new content up before that happened.
Thanks for watching!

I'm a semi-retired environment/hard surface artist, level designer, programmer living in Ohio.
I spent several decades in the AAA games industry working on titles like Unreal Tournament, Gears of War, Fortnite, PUBG, We Happy Few, and many others.
Now I work on things that pique my interest and try to share what I've learned.
