Ben Randall is fast gaining a reputation as one of the rising guitar stars of his generation.
He came to the attention of the judges in 2008's inaugural Guitar Idol competition ( www.guitaridol.tv ) when they commented on "his level of technical virtuosity at such a young age, coupled with a level of phrasing beyond his years. For someone who has only been playing 3 years, it is nothing short of miraculous!"
Ben won the "Most Promising Young Guitarist" title when just 17 with a field of over 750 international entrants. Ben's entry was called 'Before The Rain'.
Industry professionals have commented that he has the unique ability to connect with his audience with a dazzling display of technique, tone, emotion, and a genuinely distinctive style.
Now 19, Ben continues to gain admirers for his blend of melodic and metal rock and has been working on sessions and new material.
In 2009 Ben joined the lengendary metal band Power Quest and played shows throughout the UK, including prestigious support slots for ex-Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen and guitar legend Michael Schenker.
Please send Ben a message if you like his music, or are a band/artist/producer looking for a talented and flexible guitarist. He also offers personalised guitar lessons ( www.benrandallguitarlessons.com ).
Ben's influences include John Norum (Europe), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Neal Schon (Journey), Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Marco Sfogli and Andy Timmons, as well as bands such as Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage, Dokken, Symphony X and Megadeth. He is able to play a convincing range of styles other than melodic/metal rock.
Here are some comments from those who have followed his progress from 'Guitar Idol' and via YouTube.
"One of the few people on youtube who can actually play guitar!"
"Awesome"
"Wow, you can rock! That's some mind-blowing playing there dude! And cool hair too"
"Absolutely awesome man, you're one of the most talented players I've heard"
"You represent the next generation of technique...what's really great though is that you have a really thick sound, nice wide vibrato, great melodic sense and very mature phrasing - speed and technique are one thing but you don't often see these other elements in younger players. Very, very cool to see what you're doing!"
