The Specially Protected Areas Regional Activity Centre (SPA/RAC), a component of the UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan, assists Mediterranean countries in implementing the Protocol concerning Specially Protected Areas and Biological Diversity in the Mediterranean (SPA/BD Protocol) of the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention).
SPA/RAC action aims at conserving species, habitats, ecosystems and areas of ecological/cultural interest in the Mediterranean taking into account sustainable management and the ecosystem approach.
