Fun Fact #1 El TranvĂa y el FĂștbol
(Trolley Cars and Soccer)
Remembering History and the undisputed superiority of Capitalism.
It was May 25th 1868. The first horse pulled TranvĂa (trolley car) also known as "Fenway or Ferrocarril" takes to the streets of Montevideo.
It was a great leap forward and the first method of mass public transportation throughout the city. It was more efficient then the traditional way of getting around by using horses or horse and carriage.
Within a few years as many as 13 private companies operated tranvĂas in Montevideo.
Competition between the companies that operated individual lines led to improvements in the service as well as other benefits to the city that gave the rise to what is now the national pastime, FĂștbol. (More on that later)
A deep competitive desire to draw riders to use individual company lines made these companies invest in creating attractions that would draw riders to use the weekend service as regular ridership fell sharply on the weekends.
By 1907 the TranvĂa was fully electric. There was a need to increase ridership on the weekends in order to justify the increase on investment that was brought on by the electrification of the TranvĂa.
Two of the largest companies at the time, La comercial de Montevideo and Transatlantic began competing for those weekend riders.
They set out to build beach side resorts that would attract riders to the coast as well as attracting riders to other areas away from the coast.
They began giving away land to local FĂștbol clubs under the condition that they would be developed to attract more people to FĂștbol matches.
In 1912 the Grand Hotel Pocitos opened it's doors. This was an investment made by "La comercial de Montevideo".
Located right on the beach in the neighborhood of Pocitos ,which at the time saw very few people, began to draw in large crowds to the area.
People looking for weekend relaxation now had some very good family friendly options rising up in areas that previously saw very few people.
Transatlantic (the main competitor to La Comercial) Opened "Parque Capurro" which was a multi use stadium although mainly used to house FĂștbol matches.
Prior to that the FĂștbol Club named Albion was given land and in 1899 opened the first stadium in the neighborhood of El Prado.
The need to compete with each other and be the best in order to attract customers was creating vast amounts of employment and growth especially for all the new arrivals from Europe that were making Uruguay their new home.
Estadio Pocitos was one of those investments that employed many people and gave rise to what is probably the most popular event in all of the world, The World Cup.
This Stadium was given for use to Club AtlĂ©tico Peñarol as a result of the competition that grew out of the need to attract riders to individual TranvĂa Lines.
July 13th 1930 wasn't just another day. It was in fact, the most important day in FĂștbol history and Estadio Pocitos wasn't just another stadium, it was the place where during the 19th minute of the first World Cup match in history French player Lucient Laurent scored the first Goal in World Cup History against the opposing Mexican Team
France won the match 4-1.
History was made in a stadium developed by a private company with private funds looking to compete with a rival company for passengers to their TranvĂa Lines.
Some of the most sought after neighborhoods in Montevideo are mainly those on the coast.
A coast that was developed by private companies looking to attract people to use their transportation services on the weekends as rider usage would fall on the weekends and the beach was the incentive used by these companies to increase that usage.
Capitalism gives rise to the best in humanity.
No other system can compete with the proven superiority of capitalism that stems from just 3 basic principles.
1. Private property
2. Private means of production
3. Respect for life
By 1947 this was made evident as the TranvĂa Companies were, through state pressure and manipulation, made to turn over their public transportation system to the State.
In just 3 short years the TranvĂa disappeared.
The state was unable to keep alive the one thing that gave life to Montevideo, that brought unmeasurable joy to the hearts of countless FĂștbol fans and that started the process of building the most sought after areas in the capital.
Capitalism never fails.
The State is the one that always fails and looks to blame their shortcomings on others.
The state is the only mechanism for corporate corruption to exist.
Those of us that know the true superiority of capitalism can apply these principles in order to weather the storms caused by socialist, communist and all the corrupt corporations that would never be able to exist without the constant theft provided by the state.
Those that don't will for ever look for others to hate for their own lack of understanding.

"In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. In typical corrupt government form they set these men up. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground, then Los Angeles turned into a liberal cesspool full of drug addicts and confused girly men.
Once California instituted vaccine mandates they had enough. Because of their experience with the government that led to extreme distrust they fled the U.S
They started a new life far away trading the hamburger for a Chivito.
Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them (usually driving on La Rambla, by Playa de los Ingleses in Punta Gorda Montevideo)....maybe you can hire The A-Team."
