Alsace wines are considered to be among the very best whites France can offer, with intense, fresh-grape aromas and a distinctively fruity, unoaked character.
The quality of the region's wines owes much to its excellent climate, the extraordinary geological variety of its terroirs and the expertise of its winemakers. Major varietals produced in the region include Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and also Crémants d'Alsace, while 51 terroirs qualify for Grand Cru status. Vendanges Tardives (late-picked wines) are also hugely popular.
Alsace wines make an ideal aperitif and also go wonderfully well with food, especially seafood, white meat, cheese and deserts.
