Are you ready for more Bakersfield Sound trivia?
Wynn Stewart was the first artist to draw me in to the Bakersfield Sound.
My Wynn-win Situation (hear this on
words, music photography and thumbnail art by Bruce L Thiessen, aka Dr BLT © 2025
it was a Wynn-win situation
Wynn Stewart gained
a nine-year-old fan
and I gained access
to the Bakersfield Sound
that helped to shape
the songsmith that I am
it was a Wynn-win situation
that song kept playin’ in my little head
It’s such a Pretty World Today
heck, every time that song would play
on the radio it would make my day
chorus:
was food for my young soul,
and I would eat it for my dinner
every time that I would lose
Wynn Stewart turned me to a winner
I didn’t know about Bakersfield
I grew up in that northern nation
but I still took advantage of this
Wynn-win situation
spoken part:
win-win spin spin
my young head was a jukebox
and that song would keep on spinnin’
Wynn-win spin spin
the song would always make me grin Wynn-win spin spin
bow could I have known
one day I’d land on the stompin’ ground of Wynn Stewart
and the artists of the Bakersfield Sound
I was just a little boy,
but in my heart a love was born
for the simple country style
that would always make me smile
It’s such a pretty world today
it’s such a pretty world today

Besides the shared topic of their respective songs, what does the writer of "Mama's Don't Let Your Babyies Grow up to Be Cowboys," and the writer of the answer to that song, "Mama, Your Baby's Grown Up to Be a Cowboy," namely, Dr BLT, share in common?

Great news for fans of the great Bakersfield Sound pioneers! This single drops on Bakersfield Sound legend, Bob Wills’s Birthday, March 6.
I just completed the album art for the single/title track to “Whose Gonna Fill their Bakersfield Boots,” The album due for release on November 3, 2025. Stay grounded in the Bakersfield Sound and stay “tuned.”

Well, it was just a matter of time before a psychologist offered his perspective on the P. Diddy situation. Of course, nobody knew that it would take the form of an original rap song. Isn’t this the same guy that had a cameo on Cake’s MTV-music-video-award-nominated music video for “Short Skirt-long Jacket?”

A song I penned this morning after remembering the first band I led—Uncle Bruce and the Nephews. It was a blues punk band.

Dr BLT is a “songwriting savant, also known as Southern Californian’s Ambassador and songwriting historian of the Bakersfield Sound. In addition to being a multi-genre singer/songwriter, Dr BLT has a flair for folk art and a psychologist license.” He offers music to the ears and eyes!
Dr Bruce L Thiessen, aka Dr BLT, is a prolific Canadian-born, unspeakably prolific San Diego singer/songwriter/psychologist, author and artist. He’s adored by fans and praised by the likes of folks like Casey Kasem, P!nk and Buck Owens, with a cameo in a top-hit, MTV-award-nominated music video.
