Moved to Alaska in 1968. A sourdough refers to a person who has been around for quite a bit and endured the hardships.
i.e. 10 years or more. (Term came from the old gold miners and trappers) A cheechako was typically somebody new who hasn't proven themselves, or weren't ready for the hardships and usually quit or left. (7 years or less)
Both of these terms were used back in the day of early settlers or trappers in Alaska.
