Hello hello! New free background music just dropped! I composed this with a lot of East Asian/traditional Chinese instruments like guqin, zither and dizi (flute), to celebrate my East Asian cultural heritage 🌺 also traditional East Asian music always sounds so effortlessly elegant, so I named this track 'A World of Peonies' because that's how I see it in my head: beautiful, graceful and elegant. Let me know if you like this type of sound!

Hey folks! Check out this quaint little music snippet that I composed for the OST Composing Jam - [Sandbox] hosted by ‪@OSTCompJam‬ on Itch.io! The theme for this month is 'Palindrome', translates to music it means having at least one musical element that can be played both backward and forward and sounding almost identical, much like the name 'Hannah' which is a palindrome in the sense that the letters are exactly the same spelled backward and forward. You can download this track (free to use) from my project page on Itch.io: katekwokmusic.itch.io/ #celticmusic #backgroundmusic #bgm #vgm #videogamemusic

NEW piano background music just dropped! This is a new type of content I've been trying to do, I've always enjoyed these relaxing, long-form piano music so I thought I can try composing music like these too. It's getting chilly where I live, so this week's Piano Café (yes, I will aim to compose new music for this playlist and upload weekly!) theme is 'Fiery'. Most of these tracks are improvisations, meaning it is recorded in one take with no sheet music or any other special embellishment. I hope you like it! 🌺 Let me know what you think about this type of music. Thanks for being here! ❤️ -Kate

[HSR 2.2 spoiler(?)]

No one is probably going to read this but putting the spoiler tag just in case!
I just want to talk about 2.2 and some of my fave moments🥲
I need to get it off my chest🥲

Moments that I really, really loved (in no particular order, I just type this while thinking out loud):

- THE BOSS FIGHT MUSIC CHOICE?! one thing that has been consistently executed at a high level in HSR, is its music direction, especially in all boss fights. How did they manage to compose and choose music that match the exact vibes of that world while simultaneously retain that epic flavor that defines the boss fight genre, is beyond me. like how we got Wildfire in Belobog which is like punk rock, and it echoes with the rock-n-roll spirit of Serval/Mechanical Fever and Belobogians' general defiance against the dystopian ruler; and then Xianzhou with its trance-like Sanskrit vocals in the second phase of the Phantylia's fight that symbolizes Phantylia's corruption and hypnotisation, which is overcomed by Jing Yuan's theme in the final phase with all the fancy orchestral fanfare and distinct Chinese instrumental embellishment; and finally we get to Penacony, the hymn-like organs and massive choir vocals in the first two phases are just so in-character of Sunday, him being like those horrifying biblically-accurate angels, only to be overcome by Robin's uptempo pop track in the final phase which reminds me of those genki shoujo manga op and the contrast is just so, so refreshing and uplifting. It is a clash of sonic identity (Sunday's holy church music vs Robin's candy pop), and it perfectly encapsulated the sibling's contrasting ideals about what it really means to live. Sunday thinks it's important for the bird to survive no matter the cost, even if it means clipping its wings and putting it behind caged bars (Sunday wants to succumb himself to Order, which is basically sacrificing humanity's right-to-choose/free will), while Robin thinks the exact opposite: giving up our right-to-choose is not living, it's just another form of enslavement. It's better for the bird to take flight, even if someday it might plummet to its demise (we are humans, we make mistakes and perish regardless of the Paths we choose to tread) - but the important thing here is not the ending, but the feeling of the wind beneath our wings and the scorching sun on our backs. Those small moments are what we are staying alive for, and that message couldnt be clearer in the boss fight against Sunday the instance Robin's hopeful song hits. I could rant about how beautiful this fight is forever, I just wish I could experience it for the first time but that probably means I have to make another account...

- Misha and Gallagher😭prior to 2.2 i saw some theories on Reddit that explains how the entire Penacony is just Misha's dream (A Child's Dream), I can't believe we actually got it right😭i love the entire reveal of Misha's identity through paper/shadow cutouts, how he was adopted by a seafarer and all that, and how all those seemingly fragmentary memories are all connected by that one line of dialogue "where are you going, grandfather"/"where are you going, Misha"...this Penacony arc, to me, the central keyword would be 'inheritance'. The reasons why Trailblaze and the Nameless remains so active across the cosmos despite its founding Aeon dead are twofold, firstly its because there are navigators (leaders) like Himeko that possess the courage and curiosity to take up the mantle, but the second reason (the more important reason i think) is because there are people (trailblazers) that saw the value in venturing out into the unknown, that decides it is a worthy cause to follow, that voluntarily chooses to inherit the spirit of all the adventurers that came before us and trusting in our future brethren to inherit our legacy. Without this call-to-follow spirit, without those that will lead and those that will follow, the Path of Trailblaze would cease to exist. Star Rail is laid down by numerous bricks, each brick is like a joint that ultimately forms the cosmic spine that is the road to trailblaze, and I just love the undying fidelity, the overflowing amount of loyalty and hope and perseverance that Misha has for his future Trailblazers to come and inherit his hat. The fact that he waited, and waited, and waited, and even manifested the form of Misha in his imagination/dreamscape and Clockie being a manifestation of the first compass that his grandfather gave him all those years ago...Misha's love and yearning for the cosmos and for the calling of the Trailblaze extends even after death, and I think that is a very potent and immense form of dedication. Misha has my utmost love and respect. I love him so so so so much, Penacony's narrative writing is on a whole other level holy shit. (And there is a Hound statue next to Misha's sleeping figure, like an old friend that forever stands watch in this eternal slumber, like a silent vigil...Gallagher😭)

- Can we talk about how under-appreciated Himeko and Welt are?! I don't see enough people talking about them being the actual brains of the AE?? Himeko is the first person to put together the puzzle pieces the second she saw Micah (she is the first one to suggest going back to Edward's Dream Store to verify her theory of Misha being the key to all the mystery, March and Stelle are still 'eh whats going on' while Himeko is already strategising), and WELT MY GOAT he is cautious of Sunday's ulterior motives from the very beginning and when he sniffs out Sunday's doublespeak "the God that you are referring to, is it truly Harmony?" when Sunday is pretending to 'interrogate' the Dreammaster but is actually a deceptive wordplay by replacing the identity of God with Order, like I can't believe Welt fucking said that and basically lays his cards on the table and when he does that, omg he's so sexy. Like, I'm so down bad for sexy elderly brains lollll seriously Hoyoverse, more Himeko and Welt scenes please, i would eat it up so bad they're so good

- Archeron and Tiernan's backstory. For some reason that one scene where Acheron stood silently by the shrinking figure in the armchair, holding the red umbrella while the entire world around them is weeping ("when does the rain stop?"), it makes me feel so, so so sad...i don't know how to explain it, it's this deep, forlorn, profound sorrow that dwells and dwells and refuses to diminish or leave, I think that's what Tiernan is feeling and also the reason why he didn't realize he's already long dead by the time Acheron came around. Tiernan never stops thinking about Misha and their time on the AE, just like how Misha never stops thinking about Trailblazing, and they are both holding onto something so precious and core to their being, and i just...i cried while watching that entire dialogue unfold, the way that was written makes me feel like I was there, by the treacherous seas and crashing waves and never-ending rain, and I was weeping alongside them, I was one of those skeleton hands that reaches out to the sky in hope of catching a glimpse of something...i'm getting emotional just typing this lol, that scene is imprinted on my mind. I think if you love something enough, even if you are too old to do anything more or you're downright dead, you just need to keep holding onto it. Don't stop thinking about it; as long as we think hard enough, the universe will somehow preserve our voices and someone, someday, will come and find us and take us away (Trailblazer found Misha, Acheron found Tiernan), and that's just fucking beautiful and poetic, I want to cry again lmaooooo I hope in the future QoL update there is an option to replay the cutscenes because I just want to keep re-examining and re-experiencing that particular scene, i want to feel it i want to close-read the lines i want to just be punched in the gut one more time without opening another account, arghhhhhhhh

- ARGENTI MY GOAT!!!!!! am I the only one that thoroughly enjoyed the random pre-boss fight with Argenti? really??? i swear Argenti's boss fight music is so good, like the moment I heard those soaring violins I fucking knew that mysterious red hair guy is Argenti, i love that theme sooooooo much. if i wasn't a Trailblazer I would 100% join the Knights of Beauty, they are the randomest creatures appearing in all sorts of places and situations like a wild pokemon and always showing up at the right time to rescue beautiful, poor lost souls (Aventurine I am looking very respectfully at you), and the funniest thing is they didnt even plan it, they just decide to check out this cool audition thingy and ended up accidentally saving the universe lol pleaseeeee Hoyo let me switch Paths and walk on the Path of Beauty in future patch updates, pLEASEEeeeeeeeee
