COREZ // When we were recording the album at Studio Circuit on the Gold Coast in Australia we had 10 minutes left on the clock for our studio booking time, and one song left to record. We'd never played Synaesthesia before, so I had to remember the song from the demo Traj had given me. I asked Foz if I could record one more drum track - he didn't think we could squueze it in, but a couple of takes later and we had it. If it weren't for those last few minutes of recording time, Synaesthesia wouldn't have made it onto the album.

COREZ // For me Iron Heart is a song that originally was a more driving solid 4 on the floor song, but Forrester and I really got to get in there and prog it up somewhat. We spent a full day tracking drums on this song to add everything we could and try every possibility under the sun. Along the way we discovered some really spontaneous drum parts that we ended up using and some solid memorable fills.
Aside from the input I added, the thing about this song that gets me the most is Richie's heartfelt vocals when he sings the chorus "This fire can wash me clean to this iron beneath". Something about that chorus makes me feel something in my heart. I'm sure who ever you are , when you hear that chorus you will feel something too.

One of New Zealand’s most reputable acts, City Of Souls was formed in August 2015 by guitarists Trajan Schwencke (Cold by Winter, In Dread Response) and Steve Boag (In Dread Response, Blacklistt). Vocalist Richie Simpson (New Way Home) found their existing tracks immediately captivating and joined the band. Guitarist Marcus Powell (founding member of multi-platinum bands Blindspott and Blacklistt) then joined, and the line-up was complete with Daniel Insley on Bass (Solstate) and Drummer Corey Friedlander (In Dread Response, 8 Foot Sativa).
The credentials are strong in this band going back over 20 years in the Auckland hardcore, post hardcore, prog and metal scenes. However, arriving at a new more mature sound, deeper influences and a crystallised vision of what to bring to the world they've set themselves firmly apart from their previous exploits.
