我從台灣的公立國中畢業後進入了Ivy Collegiate Academy, ICA，而這個選擇大大的改變了我的學習歷程。
從小在台灣教育體制下長大的我對學習充滿了不自信，還記得國小時我讀的是體育班，每天練完球，滿身大汗的我再繼續到補習班上課，涼涼的冷氣和一張一張的測驗卷總是讓我昏昏欲睡。國中時沈重的課業壓力讓我更加對學習失去興趣，學習成績也總是不理想，媽媽擔心我跟不上學習，四處帶著我尋找補習班與家教老師，希望我的成績能有所進步，很可惜我並未考上理想的高中，在家人的鼓勵下我轉學到ICA，想著或許美式教育能讓我的學習有所改變，「至少能把英文學好吧！」當時我是這麼想的。
剛進學校時，全英文的學習環境讓我非常不適應，一句英文都不會的我連想上廁所都要請同學幫忙告訴老師，但是在ICA老師們的用心輔導下，我的英文能力日漸增強，加上學校給予的體驗式學習課程，我學會了用邏輯性思維的方式去思考，小組式的學習模式讓學生們能互相討論，運用多方不同的觀點來解決問題。除了課業的學習，ICA還有各種不同的社團，豐富我們的高中生活，我選擇的是籃球和排球校隊，每天放學後的練習時間，就是我最輕鬆快樂的時刻，教練帶著我們南征北討的比賽，雖然辛苦，卻留下許多難忘美好的回憶。
高中期間我修讀AP微積分，AP藝術，AP人文地理，AP研討。這些大學先修課幫助我在進入大學時有了知識的基礎，同時也幫助我比別人優先取得大學學分，讓我能夠有更多的機會在大學期間修讀我想學習的課程。
我最喜歡ICA的優點是，學生可以在合理的情況下自己安排課表，選擇與自己未來目標合適的課程，這讓我不僅可以在自己擅長的學科上專心研讀，還可以提前為我的大學專業做好準備。
高三時我申請上加州大學河濱分校（University of California, Riverside），只不過河濱分校並不是我的理想學校，所以我感到有些失落，但是父母和老師都鼓勵我，進入大學只要認真讀書，未來有無限的可能。進入UC Riverside就讀後我努力學習提高在學成績，在大二時成功申請轉學到全美第一的公立學校—加州大學柏克萊分校（University of California, Berkeley）。
因為有在ICA時奠定的良好學習基礎，我很幸運的以3.5年的時間大學畢業，獲得UC Berkeley環境經濟與政策學士學位。
2025年3月，我分別獲得了來自常春藤盟校賓州大學（University of Pennsylvania）環境學研究所，以及哥倫比亞大學（Columbia University）永續發展管理學研究所的錄取通知。
感謝ICA老師們提供我寶貴的經驗與意見，我將會選擇到賓州大學攻讀碩士，回首在ICA的三年，雖然短暫，卻是我求學生涯中最快樂的時光，也是我在學習生涯中最重要的轉捩點，謝謝ICA老師的教導，我以生為ICA的畢業生為榮！
After graduating from a public middle school in Taiwan, I enrolled at Ivy Collegiate Academy (ICA), a decision that profoundly transformed my academic journey.
Growing up under Taiwan’s education system, I struggled with a lack of confidence in learning. I still remember being in a handball school team in elementary school—after long hours of practice, I would head straight to cram school, where the cool air conditioning and endless test sheets often made me drowsy.
In middle school, the overwhelming workload further eroded my interest in learning, and my grades consistently fell beyond expectations. My mother was very concerned that I would falling behind, so she took me to various learning centers and tutors in hopes of improving my academic performance. Unfortunately, I did not get into my desired high school. Then my parents suggested me to transferred to ICA, thinking that perhaps an American-style education could change my learning experience—at the very least, I thought, I might finally improve my English!
At first, the all-English learning environment at ICA was overwhelming for me. I couldn’t understand a single word, and I even had to ask my classmates for help just to tell the teacher when I needed to use the restroom. However, thanks to the guidance of my teachers, my English skills gradually improved. ICA’s experiential learning approach also taught me how to think critically, and the group-based learning model encouraged discussions between students, allowing us to solve problems from different perspectives.
ICA also offered a variety of extracurricular activities that enriched our high school experience. I joined the basketball and volleyball teams, and the after-school practices became the most enjoyable part of my day. Competing in tournaments across different regions under our coach’s leadership was exhausting but created unforgettable memories.
During high school, I took AP Calculus, AP Art, AP Human Geography, and AP Seminar. These advanced placement courses provided me with a solid academic foundation for college and helped me earn credits in advance, giving me more flexibility to explore courses of interest once I entered university.
One thing that I appreciated most about ICA was that I got to plan my own class schedule within reasonable limits. Students could select courses that aligned with their future goals, allowing me to focus on my strengths while preparing for my college major in advance.
In my senior year, I was accepted to the University of California, Riverside (UC Riverside). However, since it wasn’t my dream school, I initially felt disappointed. Nevertheless, my parents and teachers told me that as long as I studied hard, the future held endless possibilities. After became college student, I worked diligently at UC Riverside and successfully transferred to the top-ranked public university in the U.S.—the University of California, Berkeley.
Thanks to the strong academic foundation I built at ICA, I was fortunate to complete my bachelor’s degree in Environmental Economics and Policy at UC Berkeley in just 3.5 years.
In March 2025, I received admission offers from the University of Pennsylvania’s Environmental Studies graduate program and Columbia University’s Sustainability Management graduate program.
After careful consideration and discussion with multiple ICA teachers, I have decided to pursue my master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Reflecting on my three years at ICA, although brief, they were the happiest years of my academic journey and marked the most important turning point in my education. I am deeply grateful to my teachers at ICA for their invaluable guidance, and I take great pride in being an ICA graduate!

ICA 嚴謹的訓練與指導，不僅奠定了我的學術基礎，也培養了我面對困難時具備討戰的韌性與自信，使我能夠不斷精進。🏃
🙏感謝ICA 優越的學術環境，我以 3.5 年的時間完成了密西根州立大學 (Michigan State University) 的生物化學與分子生物學 (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) 雙學位。📖大學時期，我還擔任化學與數學的助教，並進行了為期兩年的蛋白質結晶研究。
除了學術上的成就，ICA 也為我提供了課堂之外的成長機會。我曾參與🥁打擊樂、🏸羽毛球、🎵合唱團和🏊游泳等社團，這些經歷幫助我培養了團隊合作精神、紀律以及毅力。

A letter to ICA ❤️
Ivy Collegiate Academy (ICA) played a crucial role in shaping my academic journey, providing me with the challenges, support, and perfect learning environment to push my limits and achieve success in my high school life with 4 years. The rigorous training and mentorship at ICA not only built my academic foundation but also instilled in me the resilience and confidence to excel.💪
🙏Thanks to ICA’s strong academic environment, I completed my Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major at Michigan State University in just 3.5 years while working as a teaching assistant in chemistry and mathematics and conducting protein crystallization research for two years. Beyond academics, ICA also gave me opportunities to grow outside the classroom. I participated in 🥁percussion, 🏸badminton, 🎵choir, and 🏊swimming, which helped me develop teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.🏃
📖Taking AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Physics 1, AP Music, AP Seminar, AP Chinese, and AP Chemistry not only challenged me but also allowed me to earn college credits, giving me the flexibility to take additional courses and graduate faster. Recently, I was honored to be accepted into UC Berkeley’s Master’s Program in Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology.
None of this would have been possible without ICA’s rigorous academics, supportive teachers, ❤️and the challenges that pushed me to grow. This school shaped who I am today, and I will always be proud to carry its legacy forward.

我從小就夢想要當飛行員所以 7年級就決定離開父母親來ICA住宿就讀，因為我知道要成為一個優秀的飛行員除了專業知識以外本身也要非常的獨立並且有責任感。 因此，我選擇來ICA 當一個住宿生， 除了培養自己的外語能力外同時也訓練自己具有獨立思考解決問題的能力。
在校期間我參加了無數的社團如：模擬聯合國/足球/籃球/排球/等等........以及學校帶我們參加無數校內 校外/國內 國外的比賽。我從7年級開始參與社團也發現自己有能力可以做許多我自己都沒發現可以達成的事。在高三時我更是TEDx的主辦人。這六年的課程以及活動讓我學會溝通與領導。這裡老師們都很盡心盡力的協助我，在不懂的時候隨時可以尋求幫助!
今年申請上了心目中的第一志願航空系，真心感謝我的老師以及教練們的教導！
Since I was young, I have dreamed of becoming a pilot, so in 7th grade I decided to leave my parents and attend ICA boarding school because I knew that to become an excellent pilot, I needed to be independent and responsible, besides having a professional knowledge. Therefore, I chose to be a boarding student at ICA to not only improve my language skills but also train myself to think independently and be able to solve problems.
During my time at school, I participated in numerous activities such as Model United Nations, soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc., and the school took us to countless competitions both locally and internationally. Starting from 7th grade, I realized I could achieve things I never knew I could accomplish by participating in activities. In my senior year, I was even the organizer of TEDx. The six years of courses and activities have taught me communication and leadership skills. The teachers here have been very dedicated to assisting me, and I could always seek help whenever I didn't understand something!
This year, I successfully applied to my first-choice Aviation program, and I truly want to thank the teachers and coaches for their guidance!

Shane 不僅於課業上展露頭角，他同時也參加多次的「耶魯大學模擬聯合國」於台灣大學以及韓國的研習。他同時也參加了高爾夫球社團，美國榮譽協會以及國際扶輪社，這些都建立了他強大的自信心以及溝通能力。

Congratulations to Shane Yuan on his admission to The University of British Columbia College of Arts & Sciences, the University of Toronto Mississauga for a major in Sustainability, and University of Toronto Scarborough for a major in Co-op Physical and Environmental Science. University of Toronto awarded Shane with an international scholarship of $75,000 USD ($100,000 CAD).
Shane has taken several advanced courses and passed his first course for his AP Diploma, AP seminar. He is presently writing his research assignment for AP Research on the market and buy-in to Electric Vehicles in Taiwan, which he will defend in April. Shane also participates in a plethora of diverse activities on campus such as golf, National Honors Society and Model United Nation.
Shane had traveled with both Golf and MUN, participating in tournaments and conferences such as the hosted by Yale for Model United Nations.
Shane is incredibly well-rounded, driven, successful academically, and always looking to explore new and exciting opportunities. We have no doubt that Shane will be an amazing addition to his University of choice and we are so proud of him!

國中一年級就來到ICA，父母親不再讓第二個小孩接受填鴨式教學，於是決定讓他就讀國際學校。
住宿六年的Tiger不僅在生活規範、溝通能力、領導力都非常強！擔任小舍監職務，訓練了他的領導能力💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
🏐️🏸️參加學生會並參加多元社團排球/羽球等等，並代表學校到四川與重慶比賽都有非常好的成績，並且參加NHS美國榮譽協會社團，這一些團體活動也建立了他的自信心，也在申請大學上加分許多!
除此在高中期間也選修多科AP，輕鬆學習、輕鬆讀讓他順利申請上他心目中英國大學的Year One! 並預計三年內完成大學接著要申請研究所!

Tiger Huang, class of 2023 graduated. He is going to the University of Leeds this fall. Tiger also got admitted into the United Kingdom’s top universities including King’s College London, University of Bristol, University of Birmingham, and City University of London. He is the head of the prefect in the resident hall. Academically, Tiger was hard-working, dedicated, and gave his best effort. He takes different classes to challenge himself. He took AP Human Geography, AP Psychology, and AP Seminar. In athletics, he played volleyball and badminton and during his senior year, he was the Varsity team captain. Tiger's coaches were proud of him, no matter on or off the court. Because he is always playing hard, enthusiastic, and passionate. Furthermore, he makes a significant impact on his community by participating in Student Government. Let’s wish Tiger all the best during his college journey, and we know you will do your absolute best.
