Hello Divers!

A lot of people have been wondering what's going on with Squalusmarine.com. Well On September 25th 2021, Squalus II suffered a serious blow. On our way out to dive The Calvin Tompkins our 2002, Mercury 200HP EFI gave up on us. Our mechanics were unable to breathe life back into the old engine without substantial investment. We felt that spending large sums of money on an already 20 year old motor would be foolish. We took the engine off and put it in the boneyard.

We explored the idea of purchasing a new outboard. The first issue was the considerable cost ($26K) and the second was the wait. Due to supply chain issues all outboard manufacturers had lead times in excess of 50-65 months. This posed quite the wrinkle for the 2022 season. We started looking for new to us but used engines. We needed a Mercury newer than 2002 to maintain our NMEA network and not have to gut all of our controls.

Finally, after months of searching, we found a 2014, Mercury Optimax 250 DFI XL shaft engine. A few phone calls later with the seller we figured "Well, its worth a shot." Keep in mind Squalusmarine.com is based in Connecticut and the engine was in NORTH CAROLINA, But not east NC... WEST NC. Basically across the street from Georgia.

We are still waiting to see what, if anything, the engine will need to get us back out on the water. This will be determined once Larry and Junior get on the case. We are hoping for a smooth plug and play transition. ( Oh and mice got into the boat over the winter.)

But all is not lost! You can help. Tom Montuori form Connecticut Scuba Academy set up a gofundme to help us with this unexpected challenge. If you would like to help you can donate by clicking ( gofund.me/27ebeeac ).

Keep in mind ever little bit counts. We have been creating content and promoting scuba diving since 2012. It has always been self funded, so this was a bit of a torpedo hit. If you can't donate we understand. We just ask that you share our videos and the website if you like them!

In the mean time, remember all of our videos can be found on our Dive Video Archive! If that doesn't sound exciting, check out or Interactive Dive Map at Squalusmarine.com.

If you would like to contact us, feel free send us an email info@squalusmarine.com. We love feedback!

Thanks again for supporting us and following along!

Sincerely,

Captain Denis

Someone's Getting A Re-Power! Due to supply chain issues SQUALUS II has been down since September 2021. Our old 2002 Mercury 200 EFI gave up after 5 years of service. After looking at multiple used engines in various locations we ended up with a 2014 Mercury OptiMax 250 ( yes, 50 more horseys!) We are dedicated to keep on diving and exploring new sites next year. We may have a booster drive to help offset some costs and we will let you know when we do. In the meantime, if you like what we have been doing please subscribe and tell your friends about Squalus marine!
