Can we talk about how bad Fire Emblem (specifically Heroes) has gotten? I totally understand that I started content with Fire Emblem and Smash Bros but it’s gotten worse and worse the last few years. Engage and Three Hopes were awful story-wise and gameplay wasn’t great in either (Three Hopes gets MORE of a pass due to being a spin-off), and Heroes has gotten power crept to the point where classic units are unplayable, and “new” (one season old) units are not a whole lot better. The storytelling is uninspired and lazy at its best, which was a huge selling point for the game for the first few years.

There needs to be a return to the ROOTS of the game/genre, rather than all fan service and built-in broken mechanics. I’m well aware that I’ve commented on loving how strong mages were in games like Blazing Blade, but at least then you were punished for miscalculating or overstepping. Hate to say this but we need another game like Awakening, where the game can actually be challenging as well as tell an intriguing story AND include some fan service (because the community would throw a fit without that).
