Japan Day @ Central Park began in 2007 as an event conceived to honor the friendship between Japan and the United States, celebrate the strength of the local Japanese and Japanese-American communities, and to give thanks to the City of New York that made such a strong, vibrant Japanese-American partnership and culture possible.
After several cancellations due to the coronavirus pandemic,. Japan Day @ Central Park was reborn in 2022 as the first ever Japan Parade and Japan Street Fair. On Saturday, May 14th, 2022, over 2,400 participants in 85 units marched down Central Park West, while a crowd of 20,000 cheered them on.
The Japan Parade and Japan Street Fair will return on Saturday, May 13th, 2023.
