* NCSM, an organization under the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, is the Largest Network of Museums/Science Centres in the world under Single administrative Umbrella.
* Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Kolkata, first in the chain, was established in 1959 under CSIR. Later on, BITM, Kolkata, VITM, Bangalore and NSC, Mumbai were delinked from CSIR and brought under NCSM which was formed on April 4, 1978.
* Pioneered the Concept of Mobile Science Exhibition in India and the first MSE was launched in 1965.
* Pioneered the Concept of Science Parks and Developed the first Science Park of the World at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai in 1979.
* Conceptualized and Developed first Science City of Indian Sub continent at Kolkata in 1997.
