In 2012 and my wife and I realized that in 6 years an early retirement from the fire department was a real possibility. So this left us with some decisions to make. We could stay in the home we built, she would continue her job and I would go out and find a new occupation....or we could try something completely new. What if we cashed in all of our chips, sold almost everything we owned and just left? What if we wandered out to a new place on the map, with a better climate, fresh challenges and learned a new culture? On the last day of November 2017 we said a prayer and my family and our four dogs boarded a plane with one way tickets to the mountains of Costa Rica.
