I bought a couple of games on PC today, T8 included. Im thinking of streaming a long ass session of ranked from beginner to where ever I land after a while. Or maybe a week of streaming daily just to see what happens. Give live lessons, review replays and all that.

TLDR at the bottom. My thoughts post TWT 2024

Idk how to feel about the new moves being added already. I was just talkin to a friend about how we want balance more than anything and I said this:

We know what balance can look (nerfed moves but more importantly getting rid of insane + frame 50/50s) but what’s realistically possible based on the direction the game is going. I think it’ll be a cycle of nerfed pokes which is good for the health of the game, bad for players that are carried so you compensate by buffing combo utility. Add new moves that are making up for what the character needs and thus badly altering the characters identity, repeat.

1: Make things op
2: Nerf that singular thing but then buff a new thing that gives the character a move that makes up for a weakness that have. Changing their character identity
3: Buff combo utility and/or add new mechanics
4: Make a new Tekken years later and get money hungry.

The T7 formula that led to t8 being what it is.

The main issue tho is heat existing and it’s why Akuma will always be strong in t7 compared to everyone else and receiving over 100 nerfs in his lifetime but still being insanely strong. He has meter which always lets him land d3 into combo. That alone existing will be strong forever.

So as long as Feng can make his b1+2 go from -19 to +5, that will never be fun to go against. Ever. These moves that go from being wild and unsafe to extremely rewarding just doesn’t cut it. The people asking to just buff their main to keep up are the ones that also just willingly give money to the devs and stay extremely average at the game.

Using get out of jail free cards that also completely take back your turn is what makes the game hard to like. If you saw Arslan and all these top guys play, you’ll see what they like to do is SS into heat burst to try to avoid an attack but also then pause time to try and never give them a chance to really breathe. SS into armor / heat burst. Do a -5 or better move into armor / heat burst. Nina having f1+2 which is a mid armor +5 on block with heat move makes playing this way so easy to oppress players.

In my opinion, I think if they really want to freshen the game up reaaaaal good, reduce the amount of heat engagers there are to 3. Not 5. And on top of that, change what moves ARE heat engagers. Some are too good with heat being attached to them and maybe the idea of making new move entirely for each character and making this -9 on block move into a heat engager on hit wouldn’t be too bad. A move shouldn’t be + on block but also have heat, and also give a heat dash combo on hit. Come on.

I wish there wasn’t any at all obviously but I’ll say start with 3 and maybe in a perfect world we get to 1-2 max. I’ll stay in the realm of T8 since it’s not going to change. Make it their HEAT move. That ONE thing. Maybe that OTHER thing. That’s it. Not just every casual key move doing gods work for you. Reduce it being +5 on block which I might’ve mentioned in past posts.

TLDR; Using panic moves and getting big safe rewards make the game unfun for everyone. Change what moves are heat engagers and only limit characters to 1-3 heat engagers to make the game feel more fresh. Don’t give characters new moves to make up for weaknesses & change their playstyle / identity.

Tekken Tips @ last paragraph

So I haven’t really played that much since that last post i made. I’ve been preoccupied with playing cyberpunk (fav game all time) on this new super good ass PC and modding games on a Pc for the first time and it’s insanely fun. Then since November 5th, crypto market has gone up by insane amounts. Bitcoin hit 100k, etherium is at 4k, Cardano hit $1, and a bunch of other milestones for other coins. I have 5 figures in a few coins and have made a lot of money since buying at a nightmarish time back in august. So between focusing on crypto trying to make more and more, and having fun on my favorite game, playing tekken and getting stressed doesn’t fit in the schedule lol.

The future as of rn looks promising and I’m always trying to create a peaceful environment, god tier vibes, and be mindful of mental health and understand when the highs happen to not get too high and set myself up for a big fall, and when the lows happen to not get too low. Calm, composed, focused, optimistic, strive to be humble while being confident which can be a challenge especially for me and how I’ve been a lot of my life. But like I always tell everyone I know, be obsessed with improving. Get addicted to the feeling of putting in effort and getting the results. Once you do, you’ll love it so much that you want to share it with others and try to inspire them too. You’ll want everyone to win. If I could help everyone in the world I would if I had infinite time.

Lastly just to translate that to tekken since that’s what the channel is lol, when you play tekken, just know that even if you win 50 games in a row, you have flaws somewhere. Whether it’s in your spacing, your timing, you choice of pokes, managing risk reward and going for risky stuff when you shouldn’t or getting a hard read but not committing to a harder hitting move, not doing optimal combos, not punishing right most of the time, whatever it is. Acknowledge it, recognize it, and focus on that. Go into practice mode and consider it you going into an empty gym to work out. Just you and a bunch of machines. Set up the bot to whiff big moves and you punish that, or smaller moves with fast recovery like a Paul Df2 (whiff punishing df1s would be tough). Try to randomly set yourself up on a stage with walls at any angle and try to see if you can figure out the proper wall carry and then tornado at the wall instead of before the wall if you can. If you added up all the times in a round you could be getting more value, you’ll probably end up with half a life bar worth of missed opportunities. Not launching at -15, doing bad combos, etc. Don’t try to only rely on the cheap tactics that can get yo wins. Ask yourself this “Am I the type that’s adapting to my opponent, or am I just playing a style that needs to get adapted to” Can you drastically switch up a playstyle and look like a totally different player mid round? Which do you prefer to be?

Long rant and ideas on changing the game.

Something I’ve noticed is that players really like when an OP move gets its tracking nerfed. Players like to be able to sidestep in tekken. Who would’ve thought? Definitely not the devs. “If you know he’s going low, why sidestep? Just block” a dumb guy once said. I like when moves lose tracking too. It’s why people feel like sidestepping gods when fighting against Heihachi, the most linear character in the game. It’s fun to step.
I remember back in ttt2 when I had to lab for many days just to learn matchups and there was a list of which way you should step every character. This was a very important list for the community at the time.
That list could mean absolutely nothing today because all they want to do is give characters OP moves that track or give them a move that would be launch punishable but since it’s a heat engager, heat dash makes it +5 (feng shoulder).
When you make the game like this, it encourages worse players to do the bad stuff they want to do since there’s not a lot that defense can do. So you’re forced into the “my defense will be going crazy right back and making up the damage”.
I remember when most people thought “it doesn’t matter if the game is the way it is since the top players will still be the top players” when we’re seeing people win when they shouldn’t. We see our top players losing to players we think are very clearly not as good. They’ll say that but then say “it’s good that there’s fresh competition and not the same top players over and over”.
The game is getting better over time people say. All that’s happening is defense gets better to some degree slowly. It’s almost like that’s how it should’ve been the whole time and t8 would be looked at as a good game by most people. It’s kinda like how they didn’t release the store right away so it could get a better rating pre release.

Here’s a couple changes I’d make to the game:

1: if you recover health and you have less than where rage would trigger, you lose rage. This way you aren’t getting the benefit of rage while still having 50% life left. Or more.

2: Make heat meter go down mid combo and at all times. Now you’ll have to use your heat moves sooner and maybe you’ll be forced to use it in a combo earlier just to make sure you get value. It’s better than getting launched with them having 5% heat left so it’s just paused, then the oki is them doing a fast safe mid heat engager which will put them +5 with essentially 0 counter play, then you take the chip and guess another mixup.

3: Nerf the tracking on most moves in the game since you already are giving characters good homing moves. For example, in high level gameplay, people will step Hwoarangs offense in the neutral so you’re forced to rely on his homing move which is garbage on block and not even that good on hit, df4. That’s fine. That’s the price of having the mid homing move. Make people decide. Should I poke? Should I use the homing move? Make it known which way you should step a character.

4: Chip damage is mainly good on a few characters, (victor when’s he in autopilot flowchart mode, Kuma, Alisa, Claudio,) but that’s the issue… Now these characters will be carrying players who opt to just block. Can you imagine t8 players getting 0 value besides frames in a past tekken? It’s almost like that’s how it should’ve been to this day. You practice instant running moves to be able to take a +4 or +5. But now you’ll get that, and get chip, and the mixup is devastating if you have a good heat smash or heat dash. Is this their way of buffing low tiers? Giving annoying characters OP tactics and now they’re annoying with the gimmicks AND have extremely solid play. Game breaking decisions.

5: Nerf heat dashes to be 0 instead of +5 on block. Theres 0 skill involved doing a move that’s -9 on block and you losing your turn, and turning that into a move that’s +5 and it’s definitely your turn. An example would be Kuma. Let’s say he’s in his Hunt stance. I do d2. I get a whole free mixup after since I’m +21 (lol) and if I opted to go for Hunt d1+2 after, that’s a mid that’s -9 on block BUT because it’s a heat engager, that means it’s a heat dash. Which means I get +5 on block instead of -9 (SIXTEEN FRAME DIFFERENCE), & it means I get a combo if you crouch and get hit, and this is a move that’s meant to end your turn for getting a knockdown mid. What can you do about it? Nothing at all. I can’t understand how players that don’t get carried by these things can argue that it takes skill to do. Hwo has the same thing with RFS b3. Doesn’t take any effort.

6: Nerf heat engagers to not be a whole +17. Even if you made it less, the issue is the animation makes it hard to know when you can ACTUALLY hit. There’s moves that if I asked you “what does this heat engager move do if you don’t have access to heat?” And I’m sure most people would say idk. Suddenly certain moves seem really underwhelming or they just look funny landing them with no heat involved. Almost like heat is carrying the move. What I’d do is delete the entire running animation and pausing of the game which demoralizes players since they got hit by something ridiculous, and have it do what it normally does and then make the character light up blue. Kinda like how in practice mode if you have infinite heat on and you run out of heat. You just light up again. Offensive player still gets heat, defense doesn’t have to deal with a random move into +17 mixup. These moves shouldn’t be +17 on hit leaving them standing. There could be some issues with this but if they actually work on the game, I think it’s possible.

The big theme here is nerfing offense and giving defense A CHANCE. Not just buffing defense, but giving it the opportunity to even exist which it doesn’t. I can’t even say “some of the time.” It’s most of the time. It’s no coincidence that good solid players who’ve been playing a long time want their character to be nerfed so people stop saying their main is OP and they’re carried. The good players don’t need the op stuff. The worse players need it to keep winning so if it stays in the game, worse players will be able to compete more. We talked about ninja killa being someone who can’t compete in tekken at the top but now in t8 he’s having the most success he’s ever had. I’m not saying he’s bad but with Laws DSS being extremely easy now which is arguably worse than heat existing, and heat engagers being a thing, it does allow him to win easier than it was before by far. Ive known ninjakillas name since ttt2 days so I know he isn’t bad.

Playing Heihachi in ranked is tough 😮‍💨 so many tools to use and it can be confusing on what to use and when. I’m definitely missing out on stuff. I’m at kishin as of now and I want to get him passed hwo by far.

Got some setups and combos with Heihachi to post. It’ll be up in about an hour or less. This is the most fun with a character I’ve had so far in this game Ngl. 10/10 feeling in practice mode
