Iām not sure how useful pride is at all, but I guess I like to take comfort and a bit of joy knowing that I truly make an effort to create albums that are built to last.
Today marks 3 years since the release of Aftermath.
This album was put out in the recent āpandemic eraā ā with all that entails. Video shoots were had practically crew-less, me and Jace Kartye snapped photos along the roadside of solo tour. Butch Walker remained a consistent cheerleader and enabler by my side and Mary Sparr took the reins essentially on the eve of the release.
Jonathan Levine and Paige Maloney put me and Gravy to work, trying to pump life blood back into the venues and live music system.
The songs and the tracks created were and are oblivious to all that, a timeless connection between me and you.
I could write a book on every song. I could send my band roses everyday for how invested they were in the sessions.
From āBonesā to āWhen She Comesā, āBayonetteā and āMary the Submissing Yearsā - resilience is the theme that made it all work. Im grateful for the way my records continue to show up in the world, whether it be Balls, Welder, Exodus, or deeper cuts.
Thank you for the opportunity to continue.
Some really wild things are coming, but for today, I think about the burdens we all share and natures miraculous ability to forge ahead.
Happy Birthday Aftermath, may you find solace in it, and God bless country music.
