The mission of the Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) is to protect water resources, minimize flood risks, and ensure the public’s water needs are met. District responsibilities include managing the water supply to meet the needs of current and future water users as well as the environment. The District aims to preserve and improve water quality and natural systems, such as by purchasing and managing conservation lands that store floodwaters, secure future water supply or serve other water-related functions. The District is also a regulatory agency that issues water use, well construction and environmental resource permits.
