Merry Christmass you filthy animals. (movie quote for those that don't know).
Unless I suddenly find a curious niggle, there might be something in the stocking tomorrow.
Been a BUSY year, and yeah, unfortunately less time for DCS as it were.
Hope y'all have a restful season.

PSA on the Huey's rockets: it's not all fun & games - those bank/yaw a little off from wherever the rockets decide to go and they will impact your fuselage.
Usual length tuts on something new is in the pipe. So. Whenever soon is.

All the commotion with the airlines &airports being down today from software bugs reminds me that the bugs, crashes and downtime in DCS is, in fact, part of the simulation.

Hopping on Rotorheads, or failing that, Helo World tomorrow (Sunday) at 1400z / 2m GMT. Just playing, so join in if you wanna.

Stuff happening:
Tonight I'll be joining up the Black Shark Den's Santa vs Grinch event. Squadron members only thing unfortunately.
Joined them earlier this year, but just between work & loadshedding I haven't joined all the events, and the few I did either had a very anticlimatic end not worth editing into a video or my recording was bust up. And I'm not that prone on recording the training sessions or sharing their training materials, hence you haven't seen more of my involvement there.
Either way, tonight's event is not at all their usual professional affair, but a blow-off-steam PVP event. I should be recording it - will see if it shapes into a video. Meanwhile you can watch BSD's stream in about 5 hours at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kICcy.... You can catch last year's event on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHbXc....
Tactical DCS's Bulldawg_6 has been doing some excellent advanced rotary training, focusing more on the tactical employment and working with others to succeed in the mission. I might be able to edit one of them into presentable shape - will see. BUT, point is about 6pm GMT on the 27th and 28th (i.e. effectively tomorrow & day after) he's hosting another two sessions. These sessions are not locked into a squadron, though I would recommend you're already decent in operating your airframe in flight & fight.
Check the event announcements in the Tactical DCS (discord.gg/tacticaldcs) discord for the exact times as well as the links to the 501st resources if you want to catch up or review the upcoming notes. If you're unsure whether you're ready to join you can always pop the question on the discord event discussions. Either way, it's good stuff.

Below pics are from the making of the Deadliest formation gag. 1st pic is from when I was a little further out, a little further back. 2nd pic should be that same moment externally. Final pic is the cockpit view more side-by-side and closer, from what's essentially the last second in the video seen from above, a moment before I pulled up too violently and mashed everything together.

Ugh, will have to wait and see for the 2.9 patch how much the Hind swashplate changes the authority limits/response. May or may not scrap almost 46gb of tests and b-roll. Fun times. Moved onto something I wanted to know in the Shark, should be done soon.
As for the variants of the Shark, one is not as the others. Look up the "Hokum-X".

Was thinking of doing a vid on this, but, well, Okopanja covers everything already in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBLJI.... Essentially you crosshair targets on F10, choose whether you want them as waypoints or target points etc, then it rapidly in-mission populates both your ABRIS and PVI.
Useful for open servers where your Shark doesn't start in with some mission plan, or the more formal missions where the plan wasn't fleshed out and you need to get wheels up before you can (or want to) do it by hand.

Shorter notice, IF that stars align with DCS (because sometimes DCS issues), I'll be hopping on SPQR Caucasus at 1700z / GMT, Saturday the 9th. Probably for 3-ish hours until my power dies. Hoping to get one of the Shark slots. Normally not one for the environments where planes have free roam to hunt helis, but, will give it a shot. Tuuvas will also be streaming (not sure we'll be on same side or in same airframe type). Feel free to wing up.

This channel to give insight into DCS World's Ka-50 "Black Shark". Also known as the Werewolf or Hokum, this special single seater attack helo has a lot of unknowns, partly from the small production run, partly lost in translation, but mostly because it's a different design - a single seater to what's always a job for 2 pilots.
Most of my content has been tested or experimented - it's not simply copied from another tutorial or written manual, but experimentation in DCS to find out how it actually works when you get your game on, understand what it's doing and why it's doing it and little ways you can get the most out of it.
