You don't remove the FCU, as parts are contained by the grip unit and if you pull it out they will move out of engagement and it will not reassemble. Use a gun cleaning solvent, blow dry, then add lube per the manual. I use Lucas, use it on pivot points,where parts slide against each other, and definitely along the rails.

So the FCU is the same, the trigger would feel the same (bringing my XL FCU to a Xmacro grip module that I would buy thanks to this post), the mag would be the same (have spare Xmacro mags already). The light can be the same, now that I have both guns with pic rail below. The major ergonomic difference remaining I guess is the sight.

I suspect the fire control unit was removed from the grip module at some point and when reassembled, the takedown lever and slide stop linkage became disconnected.
