If you want to make original songs, you need to make original songs, as theres only so much you can learn from remaking, and if you're frequently getting bored during it, then yes you are probably wasting your time not learning.

Well yes and no. I wouldn't make this your main way of practicing. Because a lot of music production comes from you having your own ideas and evolving your own techniques and style. If you just practice remaking other people productions you will get their good techniques but also you might inherit their flaws.

After a few months release a remake of that album that's a pop remix of all/most of the songs and maybe a few new pop songs. And then make a mixtape in-between albums that are fully rap. SHINee's Alive has a bit of a genre change in the middle and becomes a rap song for a bit. Like, I know a lot of songs have rap parts, but for me at least this particular song feels like the rap part actually changes the whole vibe of the song for the duration of the rapping, rather than the rap smoothly fitting in.
