Need to take a minute and gas up this amazing artist right here. This is the first animation Hok has EVER DONE. I asked him if he knew any animators, and being the creative genius he is, he learned how to do it in 48 hours. Then produced a beautiful work of art. I am BLOWN AWAY by his mind, his dedication, his passion, his work ethic, his drive... I'm just so grateful to have such a beautiful visual to my music. Go check him out. @Hok

LYRICS:

when i was a little girl my mama said to me
what’s your favorite flower, darling? i’ll get you the seed
i said, dandelion! dandelion!
that ones so pretty!
she said child, that ones not a flower, that ones just a weed

oh, what a shame
now it don’t look the same
guess it don’t look the same
oh, what a shame

call me what you want
(dandelion, dandelion)
you can’t stop me multiplyin’
pull me from the dirt
(dandelion, dandelion)
no, you don’t want me in your garden
dandelion, dandelion

i still loved those mellow yellow petals anyway
what’s that thing they say about a rose by any other name?
then my fragile flower turned into a ball of grey,
so i took a breath and made a wish and blew them all away

oh, what a shame
now it don’t look the same
guess it don’t look the same
oh, what a shame

call me what you want
(dandelion, dandelion)
you can’t stop me multiplyin
pull me from the dirt
(dandelion, dandelion)
no, you don’t want me in your garden
dandelion, dandelion

call me what you want
(dandelion, dandelion)
you can’t stop me multiplyin
pull me from the dirt
(dandelion, dandelion)
no, you don’t want me in your garden
dandelion, dandelion

"so I took a breath and made a wish and blew them all away" I love how you used this line multiple times and it meant something different each time

I love how it says “Now it don’t look the same” after her mom pointed out that it was just a weed, when I listened to it, I took it as not having an insecurity and thinking you’re beautiful until someone points out one flaw, which causes you to see something that you never did before and makes you feel insecure about yourself and your appearance đŸ–€đŸ€đŸ–€

I find the chorus echos "(dandelion dandelion)" so interesting because to me it sounds like children taunting or teasing a child in the way it's sung but it also sounds like Gabbie is telling us to call her dandelion because that's what she identifies with and she's proud of it.

one of her best songs. she is a talented writer and singer. she just needs to work more on her live vocals. that's it. Anyone trying to call her a horrible artist has clearly only seen her Genius interview where she blew out the microphone singing Monster lol. this girl has potential. keep up the work.

Honestly I really like this song. Definitely an improvement over her poetry book.

to me this song means that when you’re little you see the things that you relate to as beautiful, until society and parents tell you that these qualities are bad. when you’re little you see even your bad qualities as beautiful until someone else teaches you to hate them and yourself, for better or worse. it’s a warped perception of self that is taught to us by society and the negative words of people that are supposed to love us. there’s no reason why dandelions can’t be beautiful, but for some reason we all have it ingrained in our heads that they’re weeds. i love this song, both the message and the instrumentals. i especially love the acoustic opening and i hope you do more dark acoustic vibes in the future i really liked it gabbieđŸ„șđŸ„șđŸŒŒđŸŒŒ

I like this song better than the others. Less effects sometimes creates a better, richer sound.

“ you don’t want me in your garden” - is like you don’t want me in your life because I’m a dark, damaged weed at my core. I love that the more you dig into the song you find a different meaning to it! It’s amazing, I don’t think songs are real songs without a message and I love the one this one has!

i THINK she’s talking about how the when you’re a child and you’re innocent you may think dandelions are perfect the way they are. but then society will come and corrupt that telling you that they are not flowers they’re just weeds. “oh what a shame/now it don’t look the same” society and peer pressure changes your perspective on things. AND i think she is also saying that she felt like A dandelion as a child and she compared herself to a rose. “you don’t want me in your garden” was like saying people don’t want her. 😭 LOVE YOU GABBIE YOURE AMAZING AND SO TALENTED.

Fun fact: Dandelions aren't flowers OR weeds. They're herbs.

Can we have an applause for Hok (the animator)? This is his first animation! (Read the description for info)

I feel like this shows how people can find anything pretty but someone tears it down for what it is. Little kids see things as beautiful but adults ruin it by telling them it's not supposed to be pretty. I wish we could all keep our innocence and see things for how beautiful they are no matter what they are. đŸ„ș❀

This song is so special to me. Childhood trauma is life destroying. Being raised by a narcissist for a father, and a mother that emotionally volatile and seemingly incapable of unconditional love, it's so easy to let myself feel like a dandelion trespassing in someone else's garden. Just by existing and being me. Especially when my fears are realized by anyone who rejects me. This song is powerful.
