Myrtle Avenue opened as part of the BMT Fourth Avenue Line in 1915. It was located just off the Brooklyn end of the Manhattan Bridge, and had 4 tracks and 2 side platforms. It was located within the Gold Street interlocking, which consisted of multiple flat junctions sorting trains between Fourth Avenue and Brighton.
This junction had a unique 3-way switch whose home signal used a blue aspect. However, the flat junctions caused many delays. During the late 1950s, Gold Street interlocking was rebuilt entirely. Part of this rebuild included the closure of Myrtle Avenue and the demolition of one of its platforms.
In 1980, Bill Brand’s artwork, Masstransiscope, was installed on the remaining platform. Based on a zoetrope, where static images on the wall appear to move when viewed from a passing train. Unfortunately, Brand’s work was left to deteriorate over time, with graffiti covering it and the lights switched off, until Bill Brand himself helped to reinstall it 28 years later.
You can view the artwork today by taking a bridge local train into Manhattan from DeKalb (usually the B or Q) and looking out the right side windows.
